Rattle in the driver's door....striker maybe?

Have developed a door 'rattle' (it sounds a little like a knocking also). It sounds like it's coming from the driver's door but I've resisted taking the door panel off because I've never done it AND it's 19 years old...sure I'll crack something.

I did notice early in the week that the striker on the door post (U shaped, silver) was loose so I tightened it. Thought that was it but it's back. My question is whether or not an adjustment of this striker might solve it or identify the rattle? Anybody seen this before? Thanks.

 

I wouldn't mess with the striker plate on the jamb if I were you unless the door appears dorked when closed, or unless you can move the door when it's closed.

The flat locking knob that sticks up from the inner door trim rattles on my truck. Like you, I don't really relish pulling the door panel off, so I'll wait on this one until it, or something else, gives me major headaches or goes completely belly-up...

 

I'm sort of with you on this....That certainly would seem to affect the fit of the door.

Do you mean the one that pulls up (The flat locking knob you mention?)

Check the bolt on the back of the door below the latch. On my Tacoma the door cracked around it, it is the lower window track mount bolt. If you close the door a lot with the window down it breaks the door and flops around inside. My 85 Toyota did this also.

 

Does it change depending on the position of the window? If so, could be a loose window frame nut to inner door panel or bad glass run (rubber the window slides up/down inside).
