In looking at a used 2017 Trd off road from a dealer. It has just under 5,000 miles on it. My concern is in the carfax report it shows at about 1,600 miles the electrical system was check. That doesn't seem like a normal check to me. Is it something to be concerned about?

Compare the used price to a new price and let us know how much difference there is. You might be surprised how close the difference is.

Future congrats on your new to you purchase. I wouldn’t worry about dealer checks on vehicle.

Honestly probably nothing. The previous owner kept the truck an additional 3400 miles afterwards.

I prefer people getting things fixed rather than ignoring them.

It was probably a battery went bad or it could have been something as simple as the owner was sitting in the truck with accessories on and engine not running and the check charging system message popped up so the owner not knowing what that meant took it to the dealer and the dealer checked the system.

I have a 2017 TRD OR with 28k miles that has had zero issues. I did just replace the driver side mirror, but that was a stupid tax I paid for not paying attention backing into the garage. You will likely have no issues with the 17,but you might be able to find a better financing rate on a new one which, given tacoma resale values, may actually be cheaper than buying a 1 year old truck. If it were me and the difference was less than 2k I would get the new truck.

These carfax descriptions can be vauge at times. It could have been something dumb and little. Your best bet is to see it in person and check it out for yourself then make the call.

Could of just been some jackass who bought some eBay LED dome lights and put them in backwards.....

But I also like to think people trade their vehicles in for a reason, especially with low miles

Active military and was deployed. Change of life situation and had to turn it in (baby, marriage, divorce). Decided they needed something bigger... not all reasons mean the truck is bad.

Rats, maybe it was rats that ate the wires st 1,600 miles...

Actually, it’s probably fine, but @Pyro8285 and @Whitetail Assassin are right, that’s exactly why I went with a new Tacoma instead of financing a low mile used one. Glad I did, too.

Seriously...just go through the posts here....people buy a brand new truck and then decide a month later they should have gotten the 6 cylinder/ should have gotten a double cab/ should have gotten blue but red was all they had on the lot in my configuration at the time/ payment is to high/ Cab is too small...trade it in for a Tundra/don't like the way it shifts...gonna buy a 2nd gen or a Ridgeline :anonymous:. Low miles doesn't mean something wrong with the truck....a lot of times something wrong with the owner for not thinking before buying :crapstorm:

The dealer has it discounted $4,230 off the original price.

Not bad, try and ask for extras too like a Tacoma bed mat, rack and a extended service plan...

4230 off kbb value, or original price? There is a difference.

I’ll sell you this carrot for 40 cents, 6 dollars off it’s original price. The career isn’t worth 6.40 to begin with, yah?

I bought a certified 2017 Off Road with 7xxx miles and haven’t had a single issue! I saved $7k off MSRP and it came with bed mat, trd pro skid and shifter from the previous owner. I never will buy brand new because you always take that brand new price hit once you leave the lot but that’s not the case for used. Plus certified pre owned has a better warranty than brand new.

Get your self a new one and then YOU will KNOW how YOU screwed it up,(or maybe not) and there will be no doubt/suspicion in your mind to worry you.

True, to each his own. Either way to me, because the resale is so high on used Tacoma’s, you can almost get a brand new one for what you’d pay for something with that low of miles. Why chance it. Get the truck you want, and be the first owner
