Work smarter not harder. Have you bought 3/16 sheet steel lately? 2x4ft is smallest they'll sell. That's $50 just for the metal.

Hmm maybe i should start making and selling plates, nahh to lazy

 

Not where I buy, got a 12"x12" the other day.... anyway get the Trail gear plates and tell CBI to pound sand

 

When I say 2x4 that's as closest to the size i'll need. The plates are about 3 foot long and stacked on top off each other is thicker then 12 inches. Hence 2x4

 

I cant buy 3ft x 14 inches

 

why? AZ Metals in Mesa... they're worth it. Couple of the dudes there are in to offroad stuff too so they usually cut me a break on materials

They want to sell by 12's
I could get 24x36 but don't think its long enough. Sold by the pound also.

 

im glad that theres a welding/metal shop near me. they dont do fab work but if i need tubing plate steel and it cut they'll do it.

Well I'm 25 pages behind now lol. Man I had a great day, did 60 miles offroad, only about 10 of that being actual 4x4 trails, the rest just Forrest service roads. Roughest stuff I've taken my truck through as far as rocks go though, first time offroad with 33's, damn they're awesome. Got up over 5000ft elevation too

 

Industrial metals or Jans Iron works in Mesa. Screw Mesa Metals they wont sell any thing less then a full stick of square tubing, angle iron channel iron etc.

 

i wish they were near me lol wonder if i can make 1/4" thick skid plates no i think about it lol. just take some measurements and go from there lol

 

Yeah I heard bad things about Mesa Metals too, AZ Metals is the best metal dealer and cutter I've been to and I really liked my guys in Spokane. But damn AZ Metals will even let you in the back room to gawk at the cutting equip haha

 

Do you even have a welder that can burn together 1/4 plate?

 

Why so thick? Do you plan to hit rocks alot? Just get 3/16

 

i think when its armor you should always go overkill. cause whats armors purpose? to protect your virgin ass from all sorts of nasties lol

But a well built 3/16 plate is plenty strong unless you plan to bash your skid alot
