If I had to do it all over again, I would've ordered the AAL with the dakars. That extra weight from the shell and a few things in the bed is still dropping it down a bit. Oh well, lesson learned now I have to order it and install it ALL OVER AGAIN. good times.

I did the same, and when I installed the AAL broke a ubolt, got autozone ones, bought new bolts again cause they wouldn't come off without my grinder, new bumps, and also found I had a blown rear shock that was limiting my down travel by 4" haha. I got really good at working on the rear suspension haha

LOL right? why I should've had them do it prior to shipping haha. Not that I'm trying to throw anger their way but you would think that after I explained I had the cap, the silly basket and 100lbs of various whatever in the bed all the time, they would have suggested the AAL in the first place.

BTW, I had a couple of those plastic clip inserts cracked/broken on the passenger side pack, reported it to them and they send me 2 plastic inserts. Reported it to ARB customer service at the same time (figure lets see who gets it here first) and they ship me out 6 complete insert repair kits. Just saying. o_O

FWIW I've dented and bent the shit out of my 3/16" skid. Maybe if you could find a reinforced one it would be stronger but I thought those were usually 1/4".

I feel like I'd be a good candidate for 1/4" skids but I don't want that kind of added weight on my truck yet while it's still a DD.

    ^^^ this

I'm not a small dude but I struggle getting even my 3/16" IFS skid on. My 3/16" transmission skid, no freaking way....have to use the floor jack on that one.

Finally dumping your squeaky Dakars, eh? I would too if I was dealing with that. I think you had installed your AAL, right? Any suggestions to make install easier? I'm ordering it today.

I can't install it with the pack on the vehicle right?:rofl:

Of course my Dakars have been quiet on me the past week or so...no weird squeaks or pops likethey've been doing all along...maybe they finally broke in. But I'm still going to swap the Expos because even with the AAL, the Dakars don't like all of my camping weight.

Hoping the weight of the bed rack and RTT makes their break in a little quicker but it's no biggie. My biggest gripe with the Dakars was how effing noisy they were for so long.

Lmao I had those same questions on here when I was going to put mine in. If you go back on this thread or the other one you'll probably find them.

Leafs have to come off...some say you can do it with them on the truck but having taken mine off twice now I don't see how that's really possible...at least without making it a harder job than just taking them out.

Have a punch handy to put in the hole where the center pin goes because the leaf pack is going to come apart instantly when you take that pin out and can be hard to line up again without something holding it together.

Other than that, I made a big mistake over tightening those spring clamps that I told you about before...make sure they're tight enough to not come off by hand but not any tighter or your springs will bind up and sound awful.

hahaha fun times. I remember your over tightening issue - wont do that after what you went through. Damn its only 60 dollars for that AAL set. I so would've ordered it if I thought I needed it. :censored: my own fault I guess, it says it right there in the description :

Yeah I missed that little tidbit too...sure would've saved me a headache from the get go. But even one AAL wouldn't have been a solution for me...would've needed two to make them heavier duty.

Maybe I'm just old and don't like sitting/working on the ground...if I had a vehicle lift then sure I could see it being easier to keep them on, otherwise just pull them off so you aren't breaking your back and knees trying to work with the pack on the truck.
