You linked a Glock 17. $499 . He has a Glock 17 a vortex viper red dot sight$230/$250 a kidex holster $100. Its math 499+230+100=829 . You are also not taking into account the tax on 829 . Also the threaded barrel is around $150. Once again math . That Glock is juaninamilion owned and that carries an exorbitant price tag .

Let me jump in and try to explain (and given that I am not a fan of Glocks this "should" be interesting):

    1. The Glock in question is a MOS model which essentially means that the pistol has been re-engineered by Glock to include a milled slide (not normally included on a standard Glock 17). The milled slide allows the installation of an after-market optic.
    2. The process of milling the slide does more than just remove some material from the top of the slide. It likely requires changes to how the slide functions during operation. Since the owner of this model pistol wants 100% reliable operation, the manufacturer has to go back through and re-do aspects of the engineering process. Springs might be changed or trigger surfaces re-machined to insure proper function given that the slide is now different from what it was originally.
    3. Based on Juan's post the pistol also has a threaded barrel. On some pistols this is not standard equipment, in many instances the threaded barrel is added after the fact and this also can have an impact on the pistols operation. The threaded barrel makes this pistol compatible with an after market suppressor.

So, in a nutshell, you have a different pistol which has additional functionality beyond that of the stock pistol. The manufacturer charges extra for this additional functionality. The pistol has an after-market barrel which also costs extra. The pistol has an after-market optic which also costs extra. We can therefore assume that the owner of this Glock 17 MOS paid more for it in it's current configuration and is looking to get recoup that investment.

Used pistols rarely cost more than their new equivalents. Most quality pistols will retain much of their value but only when there has been significant added value will they command a higher price than they did when new. I'm no expert on Glock therefore I cannot (and will not) comment on the pistol or it's relative value.

I think people are just misunderstanding your question. I feel the price is fair. This particular firearm is more expensive than a normal Glock 17 gen 4. @Martimus did a great explain on the difference between the normal VS Mos.

As far as your first firearm purchase, I would really advise you to go to a firing range and try renting some to try or find some friends and go shooting with them to try different models out. Hand guns are like people. They all feel different and everyone has their own preference. You can research on the internet, magazines, or even at stores but I strongly recommend trying before you buy. If you have a certain price point, it can limit the choices but still leaves so many choices.

Oh and lastly, glocks suck. Just kidding.

Doc nailed it. You need to go finger fuck a bunch of firearms, go find something that fits your hand. Shoot it at a range, make sure the mechanics of it works for you, make sure it fits, etc... If it doesn't fit or it hurts your hand, you're not going to practice with it. Doc is absolutely right when he says test drive it.

In addition, make sure you plan on dedicating time to learn how to shoot, it's easy to pull the trigger and throw lead. However committing the skill to muscle memory takes time, because in an "oh shit" moment, you get tunnel vision, your brain goes into fight or flight mode, and the majority of your actions result in how/what you trained. Take a few classes, then take a few more. Use different instructors because each one of us have different experiences.

Once you've gotten some experience on one platform, learn another. Firearms are like tools (or shoes), they all go bang however they can have different benefits. I use my pistol to get (fight) to my long gun. Lastly, if you live with family (especially kids), have a plan. Who's going to get the kids, where is your choke points are, who's calling 911, etc...

Almost bought a Mod 2 a while back for $300 in the 9MM. Found out lady was getting divorced and was selling her husbands firearm (I found out when I asked for the original box gun came in. she said her "husband" had the box). Great price but possible baggage even if she legally could sell the gun. :spy:

If I see a deal like that will not hesitate this time to jump on it!
