Ya I’m a creature of habit too. I habitually hit bad traffic daily

I have had it since March of 2017, it's been steady since day 1 with no real uptick, truck just does a little better on Summer fuel.

Some guys claim there trucks get better MPGs over time but I haven't noticed that, it probably does increase a little on the Automatics as the truck learns.

Ok. Well I’ve had my Tacoma now for 5,900 miles from 0004 miles so I basically gave birth to her. I think if there was a “break in” or “uptick” period I’m there. I’ve succumbed to the fact that the MY highway driving is not Toyota’s highway driving. Southern California freeways is basically city driving with no stop lights or cross streets. So my average is about 18.5 which would be about right if I did all city driving which is what it boils down to. So now I can get on to enjoying my truck instead of wondering why the MPG was not adding up. It’s right where it should be. I am not. I need to move out of this stinking state where fuel, taxes and registration for vehicles is ridiculous. My registration was just shy of $600...wow
Time to go enjoy the Mountains, beaches and amusement parks that everybody who doesn’t live here dreams of!!!

600 for registration is not bad, I think for my first year on my 17 sport manual trans was 700 plus.

Looks like typical stop and go city MPG. Average speed says 25, that's low. You are accelerating and decelerating a lot of mass very often. Only way to improve city driving is to coast down as much as possible. You have to anticipate traffic and lights and coast as much as possible, rather than staying on the gas, and immediately going to brakes. Easier said than done depending on the behavior of everyone else around you.

In Iowa, I get some of my best MPG in town because traffic flows slow, but steady with few stops. Often "peg the needle" at >30MPG there.

Ya. That’s because my city and highway are the same. 65mph on minute 5mph tr next. It’s really annoying sitting next to a son that say speed limit 65 and your speedometer say 5mph!

I have a double cab long bed and had a loaner for a month which was a double cab but short bed. Got several miles per gallon more with the loaner. Not sure if there is any relevance to your situation or this thread. Cheers
