I’m also unsure why dealerships are giving people pushback on this...

Why does Toyota need to replicate the issue for some people and not others? (Serious question)

I walked into a dealership I’d never been to before, they squeezed me in and I was gone in a couple hours extremely happy with the results. I went in 20 minutes after finding this forum, and completely glad I did. If it makes the truck this much better, why are people having trouble getting it done?

Went in today with print outs. They tried telling me that I would have to reschedule my appointment for during the week as they were busy and this could take a long time. I told them no and that I didn't mind if they kept the truck the whole day. They told me they will look to see if any TSBs should be performed, as well as, check to make sure the tranny fluid is up to par. If they find out they need to service the transmission, they will have to wait for 6 hours before performing issue to let the tranny cool and that I will have to come back another day for that issue.

I just picked it up and talked to the service advisor and they told me that they performed both TSBs and checked the tranny fluid and that it was within specs.

It was the first one they’ve done, so I test drove with the foreman and showed it to him (he seemed like he already knew what was happening).

Just got the update done I think...the service ticket referenced TSB 0077-16. So I went back to see what happened.

The tech pulled out his laptop and showed me the calibration ID they applied, it matched the one on TSB 0062-18 so I guess they did actually update the correct one and just wrote that old TSB by accident?

The tech showed me how the system automatically chooses the most current and matching calibration file for your vehicle. And when plugged in to my Tacoma it showed that there was no update available, telling me that they already applied the newest calibration.

The weird thing is when he pulled up TSB 0062-18 manually and tried to apply that file it said it was incorrect for my vehicle, I wonder if it said that because the most current calibration ID was already applied. (Different tech installed the update initially).

I just purchased my truck 3 weeks ago. I've notice a stumble then a strong surge while starting from a stop. I'm starting to question if I made a bad purchase...

Do you know which Calibration ID you got when they applied 0077-16? The same thing happened to me today but the calibration matched 0062-18 not 0077-16.

I think my new to me '17 has this issue. By stumble, do you mean the transmission drag, then sort of over correct?

I have it done yesterday too without any hassle in North central Florida with 3 TSBs (0077-16, 0058-18 and 0062-18)

And got my new calibration ID

Had mine updated Wednesday last week.

Finally was able to put some miles on it, not just around town. Headed into the office at 0430, no traffic. The biggest surprise the using Cruise Control this morning on the freeway was extremely pleasant! There was no hunting for 4,5,6 while going up and down freeway cross over ramps, just nice smooth behavior.

I failed to test WOT because I just plain forgot. Maybe on the way home from the office I can WOT on the freeway ramp. I have not yet tested ECT either, at this point I have not seen the need to.

Update: 10 minutes after I wrote this, service adviser came back and said "ok it looks like there was an update after all, which is being performed right now" and I asked her if it is the update from the TSB's I brought in, and she said yes. The truck does feel like it drives different, though it could also be placebo. I can't really tell.

Is there a way to know if it was indeed performed?

My 4Runner does that. It didn't do it until I started driving differently than I did when I had it the first several months. To me, and maybe it's different than the Tacos, but it seems less like an engine braking thing and more that the transmission has learned that I leave it in S4 until I'm going at least 45mph (4Rs still have a 5 speed auto). So when I coast down a long hill with my foot off the gas, it'll stay in 4, and the RPMs go way up. The way around it for me is to slap it over into S mode and drop it to 5th on those long hills. Otherwise, it doesn't really bother me.

And it definitely didn't start doing it until well after I started staying in S4 until 45mph.
