My buddy think that the nissan is a better truck... WHy do so many people drive tacomas??? Oh I know why because there the best truck out there!

 

Buddies have Frontiers. This video for the most part hit everything on point...The Tacoma is the shit...they did mention the Tacoma cab is cramped which I've always noticed too. But, that is my only negative opinion on the Tacoma. Good video, good post...

Put the trucks that are highly competitive to the test and the best comes out as the winner in my opinion. I'd like to see a Tundra and Titan go at it...I'd probably go with a Titan over a Tundra...

 

They picked it on comfort inside the cabin would be my guess because everything they showed proved toyota was a better truck

 

x2. I thought I was retarded because i coulda sworn it seemed like they were pickin the Tacoma to win almost everything and then they say the Frontier is the winner?

 

It was a totally subjective conclusion. Besides, how much heavier is the Nissan? Did he say 400lbs? That's a lot of bloat. That canyon in the video was Titus Canyon. I wheeled there in 2009 and it was a great trail.

imho, Nissans suck...I drove one for work years ago, and the transmission was horrible (see "hunting for gears" in video). I agree with other members...the Taco was the clear winner despite its cramped cabin. Plus, the Taco looks better (not as good as 1st Gens, but better than the Frontier).

Having owned both, I used to think the based purely on driving dynamics, and the some of the details (engine, trans, diffs, steering wheel controls), that the Nissan was the better truck to drive, but the Toyota was the better truck to own; based on re-sale, mileage, slight acceleration advantage, and quality. I now feel strongly that the Nissan is a superior truck, but it is not assembled as well. I beat the piss out of my 2005 Frontier SE, and it never failed me, and got awesome mileage with the 6 speed. Many people on this site note that the Tacoma's sis speed's gearing is way too short. No such problem on the Fronty; first is a crawler, and sixth gear is a low RPM lugger, perfect. The rear diff is the same as the Titan, tough as nails. The frame, just to look at, can explain away half of the almost 400# weight difference, much of the weight is in the tailgate, which is rock solid. I also was a huge fan of the crisper handling of the Fronty, and the absolutely perfect steering wheel controls. Did I mention heated mirrors are a standard feature?!
But......my Nissan was not assembled correctly, and had issues that Nissan did not resolve, and were forced to buy the truck back off me.
These 2 trucks are close competitors, but look at the weak points of each, and it becomes difficult to call the Toyota a winner, especially for myself, as I lease vehicles, and do not care about the potential, theoretical long term benefits of the Taco. Bottom line? I have canceled my desert wheeling, because I can't trust the rear diff on my Taco, to get me through the tough stuff, and this is the first truck I could not trust. If I were buying right now, after owning 2 Taco's, and 2 Nissans, I would be buying a Frontier. Not because I hate Toyota, or have a bone to pick, but because the Nissan has fewer weaknesses.

That was one of the videos I watched while comparing trucks before purchase. I too was left confused as, by my count, the Tacoma was better at everything other than a louder engine at high RPMs and subjective judgments about the cabin.

So I sat in both and was even more confused... I don't fit well into a Fronty cabin, just not the right proportions. When I sat in my truck the first time I didn't even have to adjust the steering wheel or seat.

 

i own a 98 frontier 4x4 and i beat the HELL out of it offroading, it now has 240,000 on the odo but has been dedicated as my trail rig. I now own my 2004 tacoma 4x4, i love both of these trucks and are a tight comparison. as for resale value the two are close, yes if you look at a used taco compared to a used fronty same year same miles etc. the taco is going to be more, BUT look at how much more you pay for a brand new taco compared to a fronty. both are great trucks and both have there problems but what vehicle doesnt
