Hey guys, I’m looking to purchase my first Tacoma this summer here in Alberta and I’m wondering what I can expect to pay? I’m looking at an 18 trd sport upgrade package for 45,200. I’ve never bought a new car before and I am curious how much “wiggle room” there is for a truck like this?
What deals have you guys gotten and from what dealerships?
    Thanks guys!

There's a few things to consider. If you're financing and you want a good low rate you're best off when the 19's are arriving. Rates are always better when the yearly change over happens.

Next you'll get more "wiggle" room if the truck is on the lot. Check their inventory online or by simply walking around.

Also if you plan on getting Toyota Accessories, buy them with the truck, as they are then included in the 3 year warranty.

If you need a referral for Calgary I can help. I'm a Toyota tech but I know some good sales people. 45k isn't terrible but expect it to add up past that for the "out the door" price with taxes and freight.

Highly recommend waiting on the 19's to arrive, which will probably be September or later. I waited till the 2016's came out before purchasing my 2015, which was discounted down to $36K but ended up paying $42K with taxes, extended warranty, and the other dealership BS they add to the price. It's also good to know that you can walk out of a deal if you don't like the interest rate given with one dealership as there are numerous other Toyota dealerships in Alberta looking to take your business.

P.S. Don't fall for the extended warranty BS the finance guy/gal will attempt to sell to you.

Best of luck finding your Tacoma! You won't regret it!

Thanks man! Any dealerships you recommend in Edmonton?
Also are the warranties not worth it?

I bought my Tacoma at Gateway Toyota, they were okay to deal with. A couple members of my family have purchased from Mayfield Toyota and I'm sure @MikeLinterman at Mayfield Toyota could help you out finding your Tacoma. Some close friends purchased their Toyota's from Toyota on the Trail and they've been happy with them too.

As far as extended warranty goes, it's one of those things where you purchase to stay on the safe side as Toyota will cover any mechanical failures and you won't have to pay a dime when failure does happen. Like the finance lady that sold me the extended warranty said, "You don't really need it, because it's a Toyota (Toyota's reliability), but there's still the risk of running into problems that could cost you big $$$"

With that said, if you follow the regular maintenance schedule you'll be fine.

Extended warranties are like anything else, often better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. If you aren't financing over a long term and can afford to cover off everything except major repairs you're likely fine without the warranty. If you're going to finance over 5 years plus and plan on keeping the truck, the warranty might be appealing. Keep in mind the warranty cost is often extremely easy to negotiate way down. On my wifes last Ford we paid for the extended warranty but it cost less than half what the book said it should. Just remember to run any numbers the dealer gives you backwards from your payments or lump sum payment in order to ensure they aren't burying your fees like any accessories, warranties, taxes, and delivery. There's nothing like walking into the finance office and seeing the dealer loan sheet actually says 52,000 on a 45,000 truck while the finance guy tries to trick you into believing you are only financing 45,000. This is the most common mistake finance buyers make at the dealer, they assume the dealer won't pull a fast one on them with the price. The difference on the financing paper between 45,000 and 52,000 on a weekly payment over 7 years is pretty small, but when you work out the numbers you end up paying far more than just the 7,000 in difference. It's easy to make a 45,000 truck on the dealership paperwork into 52,000 worth of financing with buried items tacked on that the finance manager will just breeze right by and hide as best as they can.

I doubt you will get better than TFS financing unless you go direct to a credit union. TFS doesn't drop their rates below the ones they post and they don't negotiate with the dealers. Of course private financing is totally different and credit unions are often the cheapest option in Alberta for borrowing. Once the 2019s come out TFS often offers lower rates on the outgoing models. Of course the selection also starts to dwindle so it's a bit of a balancing act.

For what it's worth, here's my numbers from last year: bought my 2017 TRD OR DCSB at the end of July 2017. Listed as $42.9k, paid $42.6K OTD (40.6K pre-tax, no dealership extras, no extended warranty). So add a bit for inflation and all the new TSS stuff + your extras and subtract a bit for the sport model, and you got your 2018 price. Got my vehicle from Gateway Toyota as well.

Good luck with your purchase, hope you find the truck you want! :)

Hey man, really appreciate you commenting! That helps a lot what I can expect when purchasing a truck.

How was the negotiation process? Was it pretty long? Or fairly quick and smooth?

    Ps. sweet truck!

It went pretty smooth - also found a non-pushy salesperson which helped. There are plenty of articles out there on how to negotiate but knowing your numbers, how much supply there is in the area, and a good time to buy is a great start.

I bought mine from @MikeLinterman from mayfeild, he was great to deal with and gave me the best price out of the many dealerahips i contacted. Would deffinetly buy from him again in the future. im from calgary but he even beat their sister dealerships here in town and thus i drove up to edmonton.

I just snagged a Double cab TDR Sport Upgrade MT for $43k OTD at Heninger. The exact same truck with auto tras was going to be $45.5k OTD. Pricing was a lot better at Heninger compared to some of the other dealerships around AB I went to. Also, 0% financing if you finance over 12 months.

Through Toyota. They were also offering $500 cash back if I financed over 6 months.

    https://www.unhaggle.com/ breaks it down nicely.

    Invoice + Dealer profit(3-7%) +"Mandatory fees" ($1,952.25) - Incentives(~$3,200) + GST = OTD

$3,600 a month payment? Did you have the cash and just wanted to take advantage of the low financing rate?

Yeah exactly. The loan had to be at least $20k over 12 months, so my max down deposit was limited.
