Is the PRO Worth it?

I believe you can buy Pro exclusive parts as add on accessories for a new 3rd gen.

My question is, why doesn't Toyota just offer a TRD Pro option package for which ever Tacoma model the customer wants to buy?

 

Now that’s a laugh. Unless someone had fitted nitrous bottles to their Tacoma, no guy derping around in a 3rd Gen, be it Pro or SR, has the right to compare himself to a lion.

 

It’s only worth it to me as a collectors item, and at that point I would just garage it, that way in 50 years I could drive around a mint condition pro the same way some dude is driving around a mint Mohave edition. It’s the least of my worries, as most likely Id be looking for new fun ways to spend the rest of my lottery money. Like doing cocaine with an honest to goodness dragon or yeti.

 

Oh man. Those lion people are the best. Same peeps who try as hard as they can to turn their Tacoma into a freakin Molle holster for everything yet never mashed on a single thing except a potato.

 

Toyota won't sell you a Pro grill. I'm not sure on the rest but I'm betting anything cosmetic that will make your truck look anything like a Pro would be off grounds. Toyota wants to keep the Pro as something special so the demand remains high along with prices. As it stands now there are so many Tacoma's running around with counterfeit Pro grills it's definitely diminishes the appeal of the Pro.

 

I think you can get the grill from the dealer as a genuine accessory. If not you can most likely find a dealer who can source one. I would think you could source the lamps too.

I was thinking more along the line of the suspension components, but I was referring to the grill also. Those are the only two Pro options that appeal to me as a possible 3rd gen Tacoma customer.

I like the Pro as a complete packaged vehicle.

 

Are the Pro leather seats comparable to T4R seats? Never been inside a Pro and I love my T4R seats

 

Well I may have over paid but I don’t care I paid 46k when all done taxes and all. But I have what I want. I’d most likely be devorced if I bought a brand new truck OR even at 33-38k and then started buying new parts for upgrades.. headlights 1500 a peace, trd cat back 800-900, Pro rims with new tires, grill, tail lights, hood, skid plate, fox suspension, we’ll why not just tear the seats out and put the leather that I wanted and paint it at the same time the color I wanted...oh don’t forget the labor cost... yea I’d be devorced for sure. So my opinion well worth it! I love my wife and my truck all I need nothing more.

Yea my wife has a 4 runner with the leather It’s basicaly the same the pro has some embroidering in the head rest that says trd Pro but other than that it’s comparable

This weekend I went to a Taco off Road truck meet in West Valley Utah... Took my Pro there planing on seeing some cool mods and find out about trails I might want to check out.. All excited got up early Saturday Morning to get there oh yes! wooohooo!
Went I got there I started seeing all these Tacoma TRDOR trucks everywhere and wow mods? yes saw 4 inch lifts, 6 inch Lifts Tacoma trucks with giant tires dual by pass shocks (4 long travel shocks in front and same in back) and I was pulling in saying to myself "wow this group is way out of my league" there was Tacoma trucks with super chargers on them and these guys have changed Gear ratios to handle everything most of them have shock tower stiffeners under the hood except the super charged guys they have every off road light packed on you can get way too much to list and I looked up average cost for all that gear and it is in the 30 K range or more.
So I asked "hey what trails you guys go Off road running on?" got a blank look..... that is when I realized the Only "Off Road" these trucks get is when they pull Off the Highway into the Mall Parking lot.......

 

If i had a pile of cash laying around id go for pro but for now my off road is technically a pro without the scoop.

 

They do, my friend owns a 2017 access cab TRD Sport with a manual transmission. The manual transmission can be had in two cab configurations: DBSB Pro/OR or the ACLB TRD Sport.

 

What? You can literally buy every Pro accessory from a dealer. I bought my Pro grill and shift knob from a dealer. You can buy the wheels, the badges, the hood, the fogs, the suspension everything.

 

Yep. Years ago I was on a pretty tough off camber trail in my 99 Tacoma and saw this Ram truck that must have been lifted 8" just go over the side and down the cliff. They were mostly ok and I took them back home. It was lifted so high that the center was too high. That's when I decided to keep lifts to an inch or two just enough for slightly bigger tires.

Wsteven, I'm picking up a 18 Pro MT from Karl Malone in Draper. You familiar with it?

I'm in Albuquerque but get up to Salt Lake now and again. They are giving me a pretty good deal.

 

If you did would it be the same cost? If so then you'd be providing the labor.

 

Lots of forum members have reported Toyota wants to see registration before they sell the Pro grill.

 

I just ordered mine from Dallas Toyota. Easy

 

Only on the 2018 TSS version. They want a VIN, as they have low stock. The 2017 version doesn't require a VIN. Side note, I just received a set of TRD Pro wheels form Toyota for my SR. $820. including center caps and shipping.
