What is the most you've towed with your 2nd Gen Tacoma?

I am considering towing a jeep (cj7) and golf cart on a flatbed dual axle trailer this memorial weekend but no sure if I am pushing my trucks limit? Im guestimating total wieght to be around 5k lbs,,, What do you guys think. Also the trip is a short distance, 1.5 hrs away... if it matters.

Our Airstream, loaded for a week out, comes in at 5500 lbs. I wouldn't want to tow without a good weight distributing hitch, not 5500 lbs, unless it was a flat run in good weather.

most ive towed (towing now, helping people move) is a 8 foot single axle trailer, open, with wood sides, floor and metal frame... maybe 1000 pounds

mileage go down! its rickety, lol

 

dude 5k lbs? thats is a simple tow as long as its loaded correctly.

 

a trailer with a suzuki swift through logan canyon. felt fine just had to drive a bit slower

 

Hey just curious whats the easiest way to know if you have the tow package. I know i got the reciever hitch on the back of my truck but im not sure about the rest ( tranny cooler etc...)

 

Trans cooler on the drivers side of the radiator. Personally I towed Around 6500 not completely sure. Tandem axle wood and metal trailer with a 70 El Camino.

 

About 5500 lbs.

Just wondering cause im looking to move within a month and i was thinking of getting a trailer from U haul or somethin. I dont have alot of stuff... just basically one bedroom worth of crap to move move ( mattress, dresser drawer etc..)

 

im surprised to see a 5500lb boat on a single axle trailer. a dual axle would tow so much better.

 

This is my 07 Tacoma DC 4X4 towing my 67 FJ40... ready to camp approximately 6,200 lbs.

 

Yes I know, when I bought the trailer I noticed the same thing. Kinda dissapointed especially since its the Four Winns trailer that came with the boat new.

 

does the trailer have brakes?...do they work?
so many people talk about power...you better be aware of stopping distance and ability of your Taco to be boss over the trailer....because the trailer will try to be boss over you.
Hills, turns, traffic, wind....those are what you need to worry about.
You have barely enough truck to tow that.
I will work but the Taco is not a tow vehicle.
Auto tranny?...worry about heat.

 

I towed a 5500 pound boat/trailer and the truck really hated it. I wouldn't take it on any long trips.

I now tow a 4100 pound travel trailer and it's much happier. I'll take it anywhere.

 

5500lbs is cake if setup right, in fact, i am towing about 5500lbs today for about 470 miles...

 

you guys towing 4000 lbs or more: How many of you are using a weight dist hitch?
I have towing my track car about 300 miles this weekend. Trailer and car combined weight is a little over 4000 pounds. Do you htink I need one?

 

Mine is just a standard hitch. No WD Hitch here.
