Yup. But you know the old saying of money and time.

Long term wise, still a great place to be. The suck is temporary, and lucrative. So I'll suck it up.

It's getting hard to be responsible with OT (house+wedding) money

Southern Berkshire county always seems to take the trophy with those for some reason. The topography must be just right.

So, which are you, the drain or the janitor that comes in the day after the drain was given the day off and has to clean up a shit ton of overflow?

My Dad told me you can sacrifice when you are young, work hard and suck it up and then enjoy your life when you are older, or you can have fun now and have nothing when you are older. Looks like you are doing route number 1, which I think will be a better choice in the long run.

As someone who runs a wedding venue, don't waste money on things you will throw out the next day like linens and flowers. Simple table runners or some simple wild flowers etc... do the trick and won't cost you 3-5k in things you will never notice or see again. I can't tell you how many thousands of dollars worth of flowers I've thrown away in the past two years. We do try to donate them to a local nursing home, but sometimes they don't even last until Monday to do so. Also, wedding favors often get left behind, so unless you have something really special to you, I would avoid going crazy on those. Also don't rent cups/dishware for cocktail hour if you do one, just get some nice looking plastic cups and plates (clear works good) and you can save there too.

This is a website a few brides have used that we like, you can order the flowers cheap in bulk and then you put them together following the instructions. We have had two brides do this and it's gone really well. If you don't like that idea, you should try the local supermarket, that's where my wife and I got our flowers from.
    https://www.fiftyflowers.com/

That doesn't mean you can't make sure your taco is safe and sturdy when transporting your new wife and maybe future babies in it. HD bumpers and sliders will be a good way to add additional safety for your young family

Sorry if I got too into your wedding stuff, just something I am getting more and more familiar with and figured i would offer that info.

That is awesome advice! We did a lot of those things when we got married and saved a ton of money. Talking to family members, the general consensus is people think we spent 3-4x what we actually did. We spent the money on things we would remember, the venue, food, photographer and the DJ.

I have a cousin who had a wedding a couple summers ago--they used their own house and land and I guess the final figure was still $22k. I'm pretty frugal, so I shudder to think about that. The things you could do to a house instead with that money...

Those are the things that do matter! I would also add, if you have room for it in your budget, a videographer is cool too. But you hit the nail on the head, those 4 things can make all the difference.

studies done at Quonset Naval Base in the late '60s for a 4 day, 10 hour work week: most guys, knowing they would be on the job two extra hours a day, "paced themselves" and produced less than during a standard 8 hour shift. true story, man.

Weddings can be crazy expensive, food often really drives the price up too, no matter how cheap the venue is. We have noticed a trend of smaller weddings starting to come in. People are limiting the guest count in order to keep it in a reasonable budget and still have their "dream weddings".

That said, our average wedding probably costs the couple (or their parents) in the ball park of 25-50k depending on the catering choices. There are a lot of places in Southern Berk. County that you can't walk in the door for under 15-20k and then there are forced "donations" on top of that. Weddings at some of those venues probably are more in the 60-100k range. The wedding we hosted last weekend, the couple probably spent 200k + on the event.

Even on the lower end, I have spoken with so many guests and family members of my own, who talk about their wonderful weddings they only spend 2-4k on. All I can say is this: At a certain point, the amount of money spent has no effect on how fun the wedding is (as long as your vendors are decent) the single most decisive factor seems to be your guests. If your guests are happy, upbeat people, then your wedding will be a blast. If you invite a bunch of bitter people, you will have that energy bring down the whole crowd and it really can effect the overall fun level of the night. So invite upbeat people who are happy just to enjoy your company, and your wedding will work out in the end!

    Morning all! Happy Monday...

Really any booze. But they can't hold their liquor so you end up with a floater.

I use 1/2 pint mason jars with a little cider vinegar and a drop of dish soap. They fly in, touch down, and can't get out (the dish soap deletes the surface tension of the vinegar so they just sink).
What I need is for the girlfriend to clean up after herself... We have chickens. We throw vegetable scraps to them from the back deck. The back deck is LITERALLY 4 more steps than just leaving the bowl on the table in the sunroom.

Jesus. I'd kill for a 10hr work day. What happens if you work 5 /12 or 6/10 and go to 4/10?

    I'm assuming pure Bliss haha
