Wait! It gets better... we were married on the beach on Nantucket by a JP, so the ceremony was basically $65. But the reception was at a place called the White Elephant in Nantucket harbor that is quite expensive. We had an open bar the whole night, and paid for everyone to stay at the two bed and breakfasts that we bought out for the whole weekend. Day after we catered a private brunch. And that doesn't even include the rehearsal dinner that was $4800 that we didn't have to pay for.

I know my mileage is slow by about 9%. So if Fuelly says I have 15.8 MPGs, +9% is 17.2. Without a calculator handy, I know my MPGs are roughly +1 higher than what Fuelly says.

The problem with hiring a new employee is that the expenses can definitely outweigh paying overtime, especially if the work load is inconsistent. Payroll taxes, benefits (if applicable), and salary are big time expenses. Most companies run a 2x multiplier on employee's salaries as a breakeven (2 x yearly salary is how much it costs to actually pay an employee full time). Take into consideration that a new employee may take upwards of 6 months (on the aggressive side) before they are self sufficient and actually making money after training and getting them up to speed.

Take into account that overtime work is mostly due to a quick growth in work load. The last thing you want to do is hire someone to help out with work load and 'catch up' in three months. Now you have an extra guy or two to keep busy which may require a layoff to balance out the book. Now your unemployment insurance goes up and you have that stigma following you of hiring someone and having to let them go.

In theory it makes perfect sense to hire more hands when it is busy - but the backlog of work can get chewed up pretty quick (speaking from experience here). Its all hands on deck, everyone busting ass for a few months and when you pick your head up to take a breath there is not much left to work on.

Benefits can be very expensive. My health insurance alone costs my employer about $8000/year. You could pay a $20/hr employee 5 hours of overtime every week and still come out ahead of that, not to mention payroll taxes and other benefits.

Honestly, haven't done much specifically with nymphing. My primary fishing style of choice is tenkara, which many people say is nymphing.....hahaaha. I am fishing soft hackles pretty much all the time sometimes dries when I see what is around.

I am in the same boat as you, almost always fly fishing but have a spin setup in the car just in case haha. I know you're in western mass area but I will be at the Swift River tomorrow if you're around.

Dry fly fishing is just too much fun to spend time nymphing in the summer but it does produce fish year round.

Well, that works out to just $3500 a year of wedding expenses for the time that you were married

Without figuring interest, that wedding cost you roughly $10 per day of marriage :boink:

I hear the swift has been nuts, not only fish but the crowds too. If you aren't set on the Swift, let me know. I am planning to get out tomorrow. Haven't figured out where yet. Just would mean coming a little more west.
