I have plans to float tube the lower part of the swift tomorrow but I will certainly travel west in the near future. It is nice to get away from crowds. It's always loaded on the Y-Pool section of the swift but spots lower on the river stay quiet and have tons of fish. Where do you fish most of the time?

Let me know when. Love to share the river near me.
When going north I like the Cold river, when there is enough water (which there is right now).
Going east, I go to the East Branch of the Westfield. My favorite place to go.
South, Farmington. This one is new to me this year.
They are all so different from each other, it has been fun getting to learn them.
I do explore lots of other streams in the area too, but always come back to the ones above.
    How about yourself?

I grew up in Belchertown so it's hard to go anywhere aside from the Swift but I travel south yearly to Farmington; you should camp at the Austin Hawes campground there if you like camping; and travel north to Maine twice a year to Rangeley. I will fish the Millers a few times a year and the Westfield on occasion but it's hard to travel with close fishing.

    Lots of sail boat fuel
Uh I catch fish mostly on dry flys and streamers. But I force myself to get better at nymphing because I know thats a year round bite.

I ask because we might go do Rapid soon if you're interested. Its either that or something by the Rangeley area.

Hoping to get back up to true north in September. I'd like to do the western Penobscot

    Ahh...it's you 'hood. Gotcha.
I do like to camp even more when there is fishing involved. Maine would be awesome. Have not fished out of the state, honestly.
Let me know if you want to come out to the "wild west." :quickdraw: :D

I will most certainly come out to the "wild west" in the near future.

Absolutely check out Austin Hawes in CT. It's on the Farmington and the back site are actually on the water. The stretch of river there is awesome to fish too. I do a long weekend there every year. Roll out of the tent and fish all day. It's great.

I do Rangeley twice a year. Typically hit all the rivers in the area but Magalloway seems to take up most of our time. My buddy brought a really nice fish to the net this spring, I'll try to get a picture up on here. We do Steep Bank pool, Kennebago lake and Rapid typically. Beautiful area. I think I'll be back up there in September. What weekend were you looking at?

Friend caught this beauty at the Magalloway in late May. He does the high-stick nymphing often and has good results obviously haha.

Sorry for the late reply, I tend to go for bourbon whiskey, so here's a few noteworthy ones

Bib and Tucker is one I keep on hand
    Jefferson Reserve is good
Four Rose's (small batch of single barrel)
    Beckon Ridge
Woodford Reserve (reg woodford is decent too)
If I'm out at a bar and want a bourbon, many times i will pick woodford reserve as it's pretty common to have and taste good, and also taste good mixed in old timey drinks

In winter the ski patrol holds a bourbon night every few weeks and we sample, it's really the best way to try a bunch to see what you like. 5 or 6 people buy a bottle depending on how many are coming.

    That just sounds heavenly

It's sounding like we need to do a NETW camping/whiskey tasting event with how many of us enjoy those activities

I knew there were substantial extra costs but wasn’t aware it was so bad. We have in employee who is a contract employee but part of our deal was to bring her full time in the next year or so, and start matching some of her 401k stuff. Her husband has great health insurance and her whole family is on that, hopefully we don’t have to pay double for something she already has! Our small size might help us avoid a little bit of the stuff the larger guys have to deal with.

And don’t take this the wrong way, we pay pretty well and we always will, but I’d rather pay our people more every month then send a check into the govt.[/QUOTE]
