New remote start alarm with oem fob!

Hi te just wanted to share the new alarm install on my 17 Tacoma pts. I want to start off by saying I am a professional 12 tech( car audio installer) so I went a little crazy with the features and install neatnes. I went with the only company I trust which is directed I used there

I chose this system because it’s a all in one unit which will do your transponder bypass and alarm all in one I also got to control my factory fob which is another big factor as to why I picked this because I did. It want to carry around another big controller on my keychain. When I was installing i have the mentality of making it look as factory as possible so I used Tessa tape, wire loom, and soldered every single wire into the cars original harness. I solder for two reasons, first it’s the best and most durable connection so I won’t have any issues down the road and two it’s the cleanest looking install. Because the one thing I absolutely hate is when I open the dash of a car and I see t-taps and scotchlocks it looks horrible and in some instances it even damages the original wire, or causes intermedent connections. Most of the times I’ve diagnosed failing alarm it’s come down to the install, anyways like I said before I chose this alarm because i can arm disarm and remote start my truck from the factory control and with the door handle touch pad. I added the remotes for a backup to leave at the house and smart start so I can monitor my truck from far away. I’ve had this installed for about 3 months and I have had zero issues if you guys have any questions about this or any other alarm let me know I’ll be glad to help or if your wanting on installed and your local to me Northern California I can get you a good price through the store I manage. Does this remote start shut off the truck when you open the door?

It's not just a touch of a button. It's an annoyance that would be nice to not have to deal with.

 

Even if it stayed on when you opened the door:
In a keyed vehicle, you still have to insert the key and put it to on...
In a push button you still need to press the start button...

So where is* the legitimate extra effort in lapse of engine running for less than a minute?

 

All rs do on PTS Toyota, move past it.

 

Yes it does shut off when you open the door as of rite know if you have a pts there is now way around that.

For me, is not about the extra effort, but that additional engine stop / start, potential wear and tear on the starter / engine.

 

I see were your comming from about wear and tear but I mostly use the rs feature only on really hot days so the ac to cool the truck or for when I’m out of the country I have it set up to remote start itself when the battery’s get to a certain voltage so that they don’t die.

 

That concern isn't an "annoyance" as the other fellow mentioned, but I don't know sir -- I'd be more concerned about having to replace my key fob or its battery from pressing the buttons more often. For less than a hundred bucks, a starter is meh. They'll fail whenever they want at the solenoid or otherwise regardless. If anything, the constant movement helps its lifespan

Heck yeah, as often as I'm away from my truck, pulling it up on my phone to get it started is a great feature!

 

In my experience, a keyed vehicle with autostart requires you to turn the key to on; not crank the ignition. This Toyota is the only vehicle I've had that shuts the engine off when you open the door, creating situations where it runs for 20 minutes, is shut-down, and then started again ~15 seconds later. It's also the only vehicle I've had that does not let you start the vehicle and lock the doors - a big reason I installed my own auto start in the first place. I understand it was made a little better with the 17s/18s, but using that stupid valet key to lock the doors from the outside just doesn't work with gloves and layers.

I've had it like that for two winters now, so I'm used to / over it. The dream is still to be able to go outside and start my truck, lock the doors with the fob, come out ~20-30m later and press unlock, open the doors and drive; or, to use my autostart (which leaves the vehicle locked) and be able to press unlock and enter/drive away without the need for starting again.

It's cold as shit up north, and our aluminum blocks take a while to warm up when it's below zero.

 

My point was you're still required to do almost the same action minus holding it for a crank is all. I was unaware of the locking issue - both my 2013 and my 2017 stay locked when using remote start. Unless you're just referring to the actual getting in, starting, then leaving, in which case I haven't tried it.

That one extra start to me is still more of a convenience for a warmer vehicle in winter, or colder vehicle in summer than not having remote start at all. Call it ignorance but I still just don't understand the gripe of a button press or key turn, cranking or not, that is all.

 

Yeah, it stays locked with the autostart (3x Lock Press = Ignition Toggle).

For me it isn't the inconvenience of turning the key or pressing a button, but rather the concern of extra wear on my starter and other associated components with (winter) daily cycle of: 20-25min idling -> door opens / truck off -> door close, truck on. It's likely nothing to worry about, but I do anyway.

 

Nice write-up! So if one were to buy this and have it installed, what is your estimate of the cost? Just curious.

 

I was so happy when my after-market auto starter also worked off my OEM fob!

A system like this will run you about 500 bucks for the alarm and remote start with oem fob control. The price can go up if you want to add features like aftermarket controls, proximity sensors, SmartStart, tilt sensors, audio sensors, etc... we charge a bit more then some shops in our area but we are directed diamond dealer which means we’re trained from directed and we only solder our alarms no t-taps or other cheap install methods our alarms come with a lifetime warranty on install and alarm!
