Finally a fix from Toyota for Stumble condition (TSB 0062-18)

I used to work for a cleaning company that used ozone machines. I was told they damage rubber and vinyl if it’s done for too long

 

I went in today, gave them the printed TSB 0058-18 and instead they performed the 0077-16 on my 17 TRD Sport. They said it was the one I needed. Truck drives much bettter so we will see. If I continue to have issues I will have them perform the 0058-018 at my next 30K check.

 

Hoping I could get your guys opinion. I had my 5k service done on 7/12. Of course a few weeks before T-SB-00-58-18 was changed to include my rig and 5 days before T-SB-00-62-18 haha Anyways, the tech checked my transmission for an update at that time and said it was up to date.


As you can see the tech wrote down transmission software ID 896650404000. Per the TSBs that doesn’t match any previous transmission IDs. I am assuming he fat fingered a few letters/numbers, but it’s not even close to what it should be for my 2018 SR5 (built date 12/2017). To me it’s closer to the new ID for 2016-2017s. Any chance my 2018 has a 2016-2017 calibration?

I know I just need to take it back in but I’m dreading that. 5 times to the dealer in 6 months time just sucks.. just looking to see if I’m blind or dumb. Or both. Ha

 

Got the 62-18 done a few hours ago. I went back with the Toyota tech that was updating my truck. I showed him both TSBs and he confirmed that the 62-18 and 58-18 were the same.

I have had the SSP for about a year now and it made the truck a lot better. After this update I can say it’s even better. I drove it on the highway here for 20 miles and every time I wanted to pass it did with ease without jerking my head back while it shifted down 2 or 3 gears.

I am in Utah and the speed limit here is 70 and 80mph, obviously at high altitude, and this feels like I expected the truck to feel when I went from my 2011 to my 2016.

Let’s hope the learning does not screw it up. It shifts a lot smoother. I have not used my SSP for a couple days just so I can get used to my truck being in drive with all the lag and surging. It is a good difference.

 

That's an older TSB that although it helped some people, the general consensus is that the newest TSB blows it out of the water, so I would push to get it if I was you.

 

Mine feels the same after a few days. It shifts to 4th, lags, then throttles down before shooting back up. Hope it stops doing that. Im under the impression it will always be a shit transmission. Im getting close to the 80,000km mark too
I only had the surge tsb done in canada cuz thats all we had. Maybe the stumble at wot tsb fixes this 4th gear stumble?

So my dealership knows that I am coming for updates. I suspect that the previous owner got none of them done. What exactly do I need? This thread is a bit confusing. That could be my fault. I am in major multitasking mode. lol

TSB 62-18? Same as 58-18, right?

Do I also need SSP, whatever that is? lol

Any other updates that will make this truck better?

Yea I was reading up on it... as of right now I have the SSP v2... probably my next maintenance I’ll look into it. How about for you?

 

I'll get it done as soon as I get home lol 30 days out officially today. A lot of people are saying that its a mild version of the SSP v2 or OvTune.

My mentality because I used to work in computers/tech. If there is an update its always best to get it as technology progresses. Our trucks are still relatively new and I'm sure the engineers at Toyota know what they are doing lol If there seem's to be a problem with this update I'm sure there will be another one to remedy it.

Plus also anything that they work or do to the truck is under warranty

 

Then don't install that lift until 36k miles.
Edit.... I will get my truck in as soon as I can stomach being at the dealer for 4 hours.

 

Too late lol Plus I got the 100,000 mile extended warranty on my truck. And they sell these trucks with Icon Stage 6 kits with warranty at Crown Toyota so they cant give me that BS lol

SSP is an after market device that shifts the truck for you when you are in S mode. It helped to make the shifting not as idiotic.

I sure hope this doesn’t happen to mine... the thoughts of me wanting a 2020 Tundra has been tucked in the back of my mind with this TSB

 

So all I need from the dealership service appt is the 62-18 update? I will have them check for other stuff, but I think going there armed with knowledge helps me get what I need, especially as a woman.

 

I had a service scheduled, asked if there was any new software updates for the transmission, said it hesitated from a stop and also surged in the 40 mph range, didn't state any TSB's (holding off until I needed it). They looked it up and found the TSB with that might fix my issue. They used code EG1810 so it was TSB 58-18 that they billed for. After looking at both TSB 58-18 and TSB 62-18, they are the same as the calibration ID's are identical (stated prior in this thread). They use code EG1810 for TSB 58-18 and EG1811 for TSB 62-18.

I didn't drive much right after I got the truck back. Initially I wasn't too happy as it was taching about 1500-1200 RPM at around 40-45 mph, before it used to tack around 1800-2000 RPM. I do use ECT all the time so I turned it on and my RPM jumped back to the normal range i remembered.

I did do my normal commute to work this morning and I feel that modulating speed at 60-80 mph range is so much better. The accelerator actually registers the minute adjustments and I can hold my speed now in the same gear (mostly 5th) with minor grades. When I needed just a bit more gas, it would quickly downshift into 4th and hold 4th and accelerate. Before it was nothing, nothing, losing speed, more gas, quickly downshifts into 4th then 3rd and off to the races.

I haven't turned ECT "on all the time" back on so I get a feel of the new software. I have yet to try to do a quick right turn, merge into traffic scenario where I would lose all confidence in the truck.
