why does the new tacomas show 29 psi on door and owners manual. but dealership always puts 40 psi in tires at rotation.
the handling and qear are great at 29. but at 40 its very bouncy at highway speeds

The Dealer is screwing up, the door is correct for stock tires

Because a minimum wage kid is airing your tires and he has either not been trained properly or is not being QCd properly.

It's the same guy checking your fluids, rotating your tires and washing your truck.

ive spoken with management everytime. they are as oblivious as the tech. even showed them on door and book. i make em take it back and correct it. sadly tire manufacturer suggests the higher pressures

    Simple.

Take your gauge and adjust them to the number you want before you drive off.

You have no obligation to any of them.

You can adjust to where you want, the number on the sidewall of the tire is the Maximum Inflation number.

Tire lists max Psi for that tire. The door sticker is the recommended PSI for optimum fuel economy and vehicle handling.

My dealer inflates to 36 psi on my wife's highlander and my tacoma.

I'm thinking they add the extra pressure to account for pressure loss between service visits. There are probably people that would bring their car in for low tire pressure thinking they have a leak and this reduces these visits.

I know this an older thread, but was wanting to know what Tire pressure should I run in my new 285's ? Dealership had them up to 38 lbs. Door says 26 up front and 29 on the rear. I took them down to 30.

30 is a pretty comfy tire pressure for 33s and up.

30 psi in 35s is like riding on pillows :)

So I should be safe fuel economy wise to run 30?

I always thought stock 29 made tires look a bit low. Went with Nitto A/T's w/39psi, and ride didn't really feel much harder. I'd play around with it

The more pressure will equal better mileage, but may be worse for tire wear. And you also need to account for cold tire pressure.... as you drive the air heats up and expands causing pressure to rise. If the dealer sticks the air pressure at maximum pressure for the tire, any expansion could cause tire failure.

You may have to calibrate the psi sensors if you haven't. Info is in the owners manual.

Not true, max air pressure on tire sidewall takes into account expansions under max load, the tire will not fail due to being run at max cold psi

I would rather not risk hitting a Los Angeles pot hole with a over filled tire.
