I’ll take real world experience and physics over bullshit articles posted by nobodies.

Seriously look up trucks used in the arctic and let me know what you find. A wider winter tire will outperform a narrow winter tire all day every day. You want less pressure per square inch.

Using your google link we have this.

    http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/w...hich-tire-is-best-for-sand-rock-snow-and-mud/

Which is all about floatation. Unless your running tracker tires skinny is not the way to go.

The benefit of airing down the tire is increasing the track length, not width

Right but the point is a 33” skinny has less overall contact than a 33” wide.

And on the contrary bias tires love width which is why the trepador is designed the way it is.

A skinny has no less length that a wide tire when aired down. The trend of wide tires may as well be purely aesthetic. Who cares what they're running across the Arctic, what are people running across Australia and Africa?

I trust data more than some random guy on a forum and their anecdotal experience.

I'd like to see the popular wide tire against the popular skinny tire, aired down to proper PSI and measure the contact pressure.

A wider tire will always be superior in every environment. The only reason to go skinny is weight. He also says it’s a gut feeling lol did you watch the video hahaha

As far as Australia and Africa, Ronny Dahl runs a 12.5...

True. I’ll take the word from the guys who run Baja, competition buggies, arctic expeditions and every world leading event. Run your skinny if that’s all you need but the argument that it’s better is 100% laughable.

I don’t run my truck in the artic. I dont want or need floatation. I need traction. 255s give me this. They also fit well without hacking away at my trucks body mounts. They also weigh less then wide tires. They drive down the road fantastic. There are plenty of great reasons for me to run this tire size. For JoeCOVA it doesn’t work for him but my real world experience tells me they work well and get the job done well.

I dont think there was ever an argument that it was "better".

It was mostly for clearing the wheel well space with no rub/CMC on stock suspension...

Perhaps re-think and re-read before posting under an assumption.

Perhaps you should. I was responding to the first post on the benefits of a narrower tire which is not true. The 255 is probably better than stock but not because it’s narrower.

Perhaps re-read and re-think before posting in assumptions.

First post already shows the pros/cons....

You're not adding anything new to the thread other than your condescension.

Talking really world experience, The Camel Trophy trucks all run skinny tires, always have, Expendition vehicles that travel in remote places, run skinny tire, but your right Arctic trucks run large ballon tires.
A skinny tire will create a larger contact patch aired down then a wide tire, because it creates a longer patch.
Do a search and you will find that most experience off road travelers, not rock crawlers, but Expendition people will run skinny tires.

If you knew how to read my post pointed out the flaws of the first post.

I think JoeCOVA is starting to get a little sensitive that some people have a different opinion. Better is subjective. Move on please.

    Explain. A 33x12.5 r16 will have the same length as a 33x10.5 r16

That statement simply isn't true. And because Ronny Dahl runs a 12.5 doesn't necessarily mean that's the de facto standard for the world.

True but he’s an easy example of someone who has far more experience than most here.

That said, those pics you posted, would be nice to swap tires on thos and see the exact difference.

At higher pressures maybe, but as pressure are lowered, the skinnier tire will become longer and the wider tire will become fatter
