Wanted a Tacoma back in 2007 when I wanted to downsize away from a series of full sized 4x4 trucks & SUV's.

I went and looked a the then-new 2nd Gens and two things drove me nuts about them......they were a bit tight in the cab (I'm 6'4") and the 4 dealerships I went to wouldn't negotiate at all. They set the price and that was that.

I wound up going to the closest Nissan dealer and ordering a Frontier SE double cab 4x4 from a spot they had upcoming on the assembly line. Ordered it exactly as I wanted and even though the sticker price was almost the same as the Taco's I was looking at....I save thousands out the door.

That truck was the best truck I've ever had in terms of fitting my needs. It also took me everywhere I needed to go offroad. I found myself more and more often not towing my 4wheeler on it's trailer when I went hunting. No need for it. The Frontier was fearless.

Drove it 11+ years and decided to get a new truck and went shopping around.

Looked at the new Frontiers and on the outside it appeared to look virtually identical to my 2007 model, lol.

The full sized 4x4 were more expensive than I was wanting to go right now......as I want to also add a modern muscle car at some point soon, too.

Rode over to the Toyota dealer and looked at Tundras......then kicked the tires on the 3rd Gen Tacomas. Mulled it over a day or so......went back and got serious. It came down to a Quicksand SR5 and a black SR5.

I really have enjoyed my new truck. It drives great and is one of the best looking trucks I've ever had. Zero complaints.

The reason I bought my 17 Tacoma is the same reason I bought all of my previous ones: RESALE VALUE. You just can't beat a Tacoma for value retention compared to other vehicles.

I researched (non-full sized) for the best fuel economy, looks, and reliability combination. This is my 4th Tacoma and I haven't regretted a thing.

I was dumping money needlessly into my Fords so bought a Camry. After a year of being a bland, average Camry driver, I was ready to make a serious long-term commitment like an actual adult, so I went back to Toyota (cause reliability) and got all starry-eyed over the 3rd gen TRD OR with premium pkg and 3" lift that they had sitting in the showroom.

I looked at every model trim combination they had on the lot. every. last. one. Before my salesman became impatient. I was ready to sign on a '17 TRD OR AC in quicksand and stopped just before we did the deal because I couldn't bear the thought of ever selling it since I plan on having children someday and it probably wouldn't be enough interior space for car seats.

And that is how I got my double cab. The inferno paint was just an added bonus.

Been a Honda person for my entire life. No disrespect towards them but I've had Toyota stuff in my head for a while. I constantly haul PA/music/DJ equipment. Went from a Civic, to a CR-V, To a Pilot. Had a 4x6 enclosed trailer with the CR-V. Wanted to pull that better. Bought a Pilot. Outgrew the 4x6, got a 5x8. Wanted to pull that better. Bought a Tacoma!

I'm not a truck person at all, but I felt like if I was gonna get a truck, get a truck that will actually be a truck. I've driven the Ridgeline - felt too soft for me, and the towing capacity was lower. I will not lie though, I would have used that underbed storage thing all the time! The Frontier just looked too generic for me, as did the Colorado. When I drove the Tacoma, it felt big (for me!). It bumped around a bit. Everything is nubby and simple. Feels like a truck to me. Tacomas somehow seem to have more of a heritage or a culture behind them as well. What do I know?

Before the Pilot I was really into the 4Runner, but they were so much more money used and the gas mileage was nothing close to what I considered to be acceptable. BTW for all the people that are about to laugh at me on that topic I've been managing 22-27mph everywhere in my Taco (I bought 4x2 for that reason specifically!)

For me it was a simple progression from my 14 year old Tundra to the new Tacoma. It's slightly smaller but has so many more features my Tundra never had. I have owned it for 31 months now with no regrets.

I’ve wanted a Tacoma since I was 15 but never thought I could actually own one.
Fast forward 13 years later I owned a veloster Turbo and a ninja zx636r.
I some how managed to blow the turbo in my car along with all the shocks making it a terrible thing to drive. So I tried getting by just riding everyday which turned sketchy cause in Las Vegas when it rains it pours and winds can get pretty intense. I decided I’ve accomplished so many things from my bucket list it was time to move on to the next dream. I traded both my bike and my car for my TRD sport and I’m absolutely happy I did. Only thing is, I wish I would’ve waited for a 4x4 but other then that I’m happy.

Why did I choose a tacoma?

Because I currently drive a 2017 civic hatchback and with 17" winter tires and the factory body mouldings, my car was barely clearing the snow in town.

I'm moving to the middle of no where, and needed something with more clearance. I've never owned a truck so didnt want anything massive. I also refuse to buy domestic vehicles of any kind. So it was kind of a no brainer.

I'm 24 year old and my first car was a 2004 tacoma when I was 16. Drove that until it hit 250K miles and then I pulled the trigger on my 2016 taco. My dad has owned 4 toyota trucks, mom has had 2 toyota cars, sister has a toyota so It was a pretty clear choice. Plus I loved the new tacoma and there was just absolutely no looking at other car brands for me personally.

Reliability and resale. We've never had any trouble with out cars.
Dad say's his old T100 was one of the best cars he's ever owned. Then he's had 3 tundras since. He bought a 2001 tundra off the lot and put 325K on that single cab long bed. Amazing truck.
Mom has had a 2005 sienna then a 2015 avalon which we've loved.

I owned 2 4Runners. Loved them. I decided I needed a truck, the SUV just wasn’t working for what I do, so I looked at Tacomas. 22 year old me couldn’t afford it, so I got a One year old frontier 4x4 Nismo off-road (came before the pro-4x). It was a great truck, but it strawberry milkshaked on me. Google it. Nissan charged me 3700 bucks to fix the transmission control module and tried to hide the strawberry milkshake from me. I knew the tranny was toast, so I drove it across the street and picked up another 4Runner, totally an impulse buy out of anger. I had it for a while and then one day, the wifey asked if I wanted a truck again, since she drives a new CR-V. I said yes so we went to Toyota to look at the new Tacoma’s, I finally got to a place where I could afford one. She liked the look of them, and when we got in one, she just looked at me and said absolutely yes. So now I have a Tacoma. I’m happy. She’s happy. That’s what matters.

    Always wanted a Tacoma

    When I was 19 I got a 1992 Toyota Hilux
    Short stint in a '98 Ram 2500 Cummins when I was 20,
    21 : 83 Toyota BJ 60 Landcruiser, 78 FJ40(still have the FJ)
22-24: 89 Toyota 4runner(driven till it was stolen)
    24-26: 2001 Tacoma
    26-current: 2017 Tacoma

As long as I can afford it I'll keep the taco. The Landcruiser is never going away.

Edit: I sold the 01 DBLCab with 250km for 12k Canadian pesos last year:bananadance:

    Can't beat the resale.

My lease on my F150 was up. Was looking around but wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. Wanted to get another F150 but the one I would of got had less features than my current one and the payment was a few dollars more. I could of got a more base truck but it wasn’t what I wanted. Plus I was going through a divorce at the time so wanted to try and cut my payment if possible due to obvious reasons and going from 2 incomes down to one. I could of got a solid deal on a Silverado or Sierra, but I’m not a GM fan. Can’t stand the electronic dial shifter on the RAM’s. Tundra is basically a fossil and they don’t have good deals on them, and I only really like the PRO version. New Titan I could of got an amazing deal on, but it’s uglier than shit. So was thinking why not look into mid size. Not much going on there at the time. Didn’t want any of the GM twins. Had an 11 frontier, basically would of been the exact same truck. Just could see the ridgeline as a truck. Tacoma finally got a redesign. Wasn’t a fan of the 2nd gen styling. Owned a 03 and like that truck. It was a downgrade coming from a pretty loaded F150 but it was also about $100 cheaper a month payment wise. Just made the most sense at the time for what I liked and was looking for. Sometimes timing is everything.

    Easy. Best midsize truck.
Even though my lead foot and truck nuts wanted a gas guzzling V8, my logical side won me over and I'm glad it did. I've had a taco since 2007 and wouldn't go back (though I do give the occasional side eye to the raptors as I pass them at the gas station).

My 2000 T4R finally wore out.
As far as mid-size, body on frame, 4X4s, the only two 'good' options were the Tacoma and 4Runner.
The Tacoma won on gas mileage and price.
Bonus, I love having a truck bed again!

I finally had to pull the trigger on a 3rd gen when my FJ62 was stolen. I'll get another Land Cruiser eventually and build it from the ground up. And it's actually nice to have an off-road/daily-driver.
