Southeast Toyota which is the Florida area has the worst pricing, next is gulf states Toyota which is Louisiana Texas, third from what I gather is the some area in state of California

    1. stay out of gulf states toyota region
    2. stay out of southeast Toyota region
    3. side skirt California if you can
    4. side skirt north east region if you can

that would be my call, but you can get a good deal in 3 & 4 but its more work compared to the other usa regions.

I've started gathering pricing, the old threads on this forum are such a great resource - thanks to all!
So far, one GST pricing isn't far off of a Midwest dealer, but I'm still waiting on the response about any surprise fees. Because if I'm understanding old threads correctly, in GST and SET there can be marketing fee surprises when it comes time to drive off the lot?

yes, and watch out for the side addendum they add to the mulorney sticker. this is not an official Mulroney sticker but a tacked on sticker that looks official. its all dealer added bling/upcharges.

In negotiations with a dealer in the MD/VA/DC area. ‘18 SR5 DC in Inferno Red. MSRP is $35,563, they are offering $31,125 which includes the freight/delivery fee. This does not appear to include the $1,000 cash back being offered if I bring my own financing. Chart suggests they are pretty close to invoice.

Dealer is clearly pushing to meet end of mont and end of quarter sales goals. Pretty sure I can continue to beat them up on price, accessories, or both. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

At this point does it make sense to wait for the 2019’s if the need for a new truck is not urgent? We’re looking at a TRD Sport DCSB MT and I understand they are upgrading the shocks in the 19’s?

How accurate are these numbers now? According to this list, one of my local dealers has a truck listed for $8 above the invoice price for a DCSB 4x4 Sport with tech and premium package at $37,508. I don't really want to spend over $35k so can anyone advise if there's room to negotiate on this truck or if I should look for something without Premium / Tech?

I obviously can’t speak for your vehicle or your dealer but the Costco price on Tacoma’s right now is $1600 below invoice plus $1,000 factory incentive. i just this morning got a TRD Sport DCSB MT for $31,233, the sticker price before any dealer add-ons was $35680 which included floor mats. IOW a very base level truck with no additional packages. Usually when you have additional packages you can get a larger discount because there is more margin in the packages to play with.

Wow, that's a killer deal! How easy was the process of getting the dealer to take the Costco price? I don't have a Costco membership but it would be a no brainer to get one if the dealer will give me that kind of a price

The Costco deal is very straightforward but you have to start the process on the Costco website and then the dealer gets in touch with you. . They show you the invoice and they show you the Costco price sheet, no negotiating involved. I beat them up for some more discount on top of the deal just because circumstances allowed it......make sure there is no waiting period between getting a costco membership and using their car buying service.

Alternatively you could use the Costco deal as a starting point for negotiating with a non costco dealer. I had another dealer on the line at Costco pricing in case my costco dealer tried to screw with me.....

Why would two trucks - in this case TRD Off Road 4x4 DCSB - have different Base MSRP's? A dealer had one on the lot listed at $38,038, and another truck next to it listed at $40,315? Was there a base price increase during the year? Options were clearly listed below the MSRP.

They shouldn’t have different prices. A TRD OR 4x4 DCSB base price is $37,310. Anything above that amount is breathed by additional options added on. Either it is options added on by Toyota, or add ones by the regional distributor or by dealer. perhaps you are looking at the sticker price after the distributor add-ons? Do you have pictures of the stickers?

Thanks! I was confusing a line on the sticker that totals the base and factory installed options. A TRD Off Road DCSB I was looking at had a "Base Price" of $40,315. That price includes factory installed options.

    upload_2018-8-6_20-4-8.jpg

I can't get back to the $40,315. The truck hasn't arrived at the dealer yet so there isn't a sticker.

The "options" (from Region) totaling $2,455 are:

    Black "Tacoma" tailgate insert $99
Phone cable and charge package $189
    Predator steps $669
    ToyoGuard Platinum $699
    Goodyear DuraTrac All-Terrain tires $799

Again, this is more an exercise in trying to get back to the "Base" price listed.

    Thanks for your input.

SE Toyota is famous for adding on crap that is overpriced and you don’t want. $189 for a couple of charging cables! Really?

My Suggestion is to find the car you want that is equipped the way you want it and then figure out what it should cost you based on the Costco deal, $1600 below invoice plus Toyota incentives.

Don’t play their game, its rigged against you. I forced my dealer to procure a car BEFORE SE Toyota gets its grubby paws on it and then find another dealer to do the same....then you can get them to compete for your business.

the only thing SE Toyota added on to my car was overpriced floor mats, but at least i needed floor mats and it was only overpriced by $200.

2018 double cab offroad 2wd with the Premium and Tech package. I shopped this deal for two weeks all over NC/SC. Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh has the best prices I could find. My friend at work even bought his son a new SR5 after getting close to $6k off the sticker from Fred Anderson Toyota.

Agreed. The options are just background noise. I'm just trying to figure out what the "Base" MSRP is comprised of. I think the truck has the Tech package.

As far as the Costco deal goes - the dealer offering this truck beat the Costco deal. After talking to two different dealers who participated in the Costco program, it became apparent that while the cost on the new vehicle was "no haggle", so was the value offered on my trade-in. The two offered trade-in values within $200 of each other.

The dealer offering the truck above came in significantly higher on the trade, thus making the net over $2K less.

The truck will arrive at the dealership next week, and I'll check it out then. I'll keep you posted on how things turn out.

Again, thank you for the input, it's very helpful.

Fred Anderson came in second with me, but I liked them a lot. Mark Jacobson beat them by $750 in my case and I have FA a shot. They were lower than MJT all along and then at the very end MJT lowered their price by $1000 and that was it. The story according to my sakesman was that he got tired of feeling like a pin ball, the back and forth, so he went right to Mark and Mark said “$33000 OTD, make the deal!” Who knows if it’s true or not. Part of it was that MJT had on on their lot and FAT has one coming in. Congrats on the great deal!!!!

My new Taco should be here around August 20-24. No one had it on the lot with the premium package in Silver. I had Sparks in Myrtle Beach tell me they would buy the truck at the price Fred Anderson was selling it for and I bought my last two Tacoma's (2015-2016) from Sparks.

It’s hard to figure out car dealerships. I’ve learned over the years though that you can flip their strategy back onto them. They try to wear their customers out so the customer finally says “yes”. I’ve learned that you can actually wear THEM out! If you get them invested so deeply into your deal they wont let you walk. And if they do then you know where the deal should be made. There used to be a Toyota dealer in So Fla named Jimmy Bryan Toyota and after observing them a bit I realized that they would wait until you touched your door handle in the parking lot to leave and that was the signal to rotate another salesman onto you.......Ive been in sales for 45 years and while i love cars I could never be a typical car salesman. There is no way I’d be okay with selling a naive person a car at sticker or above and then sell people like us at thousands below. But then again Ive always been in B2B relationship sales where i do business with the same people over and over again. i have to watch their backs!
