I found a new 2017 that has pretty much what I’m looking for, although I just found it and have not had a chance to look at it closely yet. A couple of quick questions if it’s OK:
    1) Are there any significant differences I should be aware of between 2017 and 2018?
    2) Also, I was looking for the TRD Premium Off Road Package and the Technology Package (they are 2 separate options). The 2017 that I found has “Premium & Technology Package” listed as an option. I believe that this is one combined option, which is not the same as what the two separate options I’m looking for would have.
Are any of you familiar with how these would differ?
    Thanks for your help!

I really like the Inferno color and generally like the burnt orange/pearl orange colors with the caveat that they don't seem to hold up well on older cars, especially here in SoCal. They seem to discolor over time; maybe because it's a rare color so I notice it more than other colors which fade too.

For one put the parking brake back on the floor where it should be. That will provide the ability to redesign the center console to accommodate for more efficient space to store stuff. Also instead of having the console storage top open from front to back make it open sideways like to gen2. That sleeve around the parking brake is nothing more than a nuisance.

I am just getting used to my Tacoma having the handbrake in the console, I don't accidentally punch the dash with my right hand anymore, hope they don't move it again.

2018 comes standard with the TSS package (Radar cruise control, pre-collision alert, auto high beams, lane departure alert). Oh, and 2018s have the ever-important locking passenger floormat.

I got used to it in my 2010 FJ Cruiser. Much easier to play in the snow. Those handbrake turns are a bitch with a foot actuated parking brake.

Personally, I hate parking brakes on the floor. My work vehicles have them, as well as my pops 2nd gen. They are annoying. Have you ever had a brake failure on a vehicle? Rare, yes. But I have on a 15,000 pound emergency vehicle, it’s terrifying, and trying to use a foot parking brake to regain control sucks, especially in the last few moments when you are trying to get the vehicle parked in a safe location and you’re messing with putting the brake on and off to allow rolling or even to let off the brake to roll further.

All of your gripes are personal complaints, I think 99% or owners don’t care about them. I never one thought twice about how the center console opens up.

The dash mounted one wasn't bad, but I am a fan of console mounted ones.

If peeps keep complaining, we'll end up with one of those stupid electronic ones. o_O

My previous 3 Tacoma's all had the dash mounted parking brake which was fine, do like the current handbrake better.

I forgot about the dash mounted hand brakes. The last time I drove a Toyota truck it was 1985 in Saudi Arabia and it was a 2wd HiLux. I was turned loose on some desolate roads outside the city as punk kid while others were doing work. I was told to go learn how to drive a manual, and handed some keys.

When I took drivers ED in school back in 78' the simulator had a hand brake and that was one of the exercises. Learning to brake with it when your other brakes fail. Who knew they were teaching us to drift instead?

We knew what they were teaching us, it just wasn't called drifting.

Funny thing. Some friends just moved to a house that is a stone's throw from the local fairgrounds. We've been over there a few times when there is some racing action going on. Hearing the 'real' stuff gives my spine a tingle. It's just a joy to sit on their deck, sip some suds, and imagine the happenings with all the wonderful noise. But, hearing a drift 'exhibition' is just freaking annoying. Cars bouncing off the limiter continuously, no sounds of acceleration, shifting, or overrun, and continuous tire squeal. No thanks.

    I just don't get it.
