I took mine to Big 2 - its the closest to my house.

    Told the Service Advisor this:

"The truck surges between 40-50mph, kind of throws you back in the seat. It also hesitates really bad if you floor the gas"

CJ was mine, James P was the tech that did the work.

Took mine in yesterday and got it done. I have not had a chance to really drive it other than down power road from the dealer to home. It feels different in a good way. Hopefully this weekend I'll take it on the freeway and see how it does on the slight hills the 101 and 202 have. Mine had the bad hesitation off idle when you got on the gas and when merging on to an on ramp the truck surged in power a lot. I haven't tried either if these things yet to see if its changed. But will report back when I do.

Got the truck back and took it on a 20 mile loop. This is exactly what it needed and I am very happy about it.

    How I feel about it:

    - Dead pedal feel is much less now
    - Drive mode now feels like a slight mixture of ECT and D
    - Throttle response has slightly improved
    - Shifts a tad bit higher
    - The lack of low end torque has been improved
    - Hard to say about MPG, could improve could also see it going down just a tad
    - Jumps faster when you floor it (what I am trying to say with this, is I think the throttle body may be opening a little faster)
    - Truck seems to idle better with AC on in heat

This is what I gathered with about 45 min driving. Overall I think Toyota tried making this tune just a tad more aggressive. Would not say the truck is faster though, just more of a connected driving experience if that makes sense. Would I recommend it to someone? Probably.

Surprise Toyota wouldn't do the update on mine. Where is everyone having success in the valley? Dealership, Advisors name, and what updates were done? thanks in advance

I had mine done at Big Two in Gilbert. Told them exactly what the TSB states as symptoms and that I believed there was a TCB to resolve it, then gave them the TSB #. they did it with no problems.

As far as results, highly recommend. It's definitely not a kick in the pants tune, instead it just feels like it should've driven like from the start.

Edit: as long as your VIN code is on the TSB, they should do it if you explain the symptoms. If they give you any flack, call Toyota Corporate and they'll straighten them out real quick.

I went to Earnhardt Toyota at superstition springs. Advisor was Shane. I told him the exact symptoms that the TSB had and he did it with no hesitation.

Do you fuys notice a difference in ETC mode, as well as normal? Or do you think the ETC tune stayed the same?

Second question-- in the original tune, do the common problems encountered only happen in normal mode or so they also show up in ECT??

I honestly haven’t really messed with ECT that much. Never really like it anyways. Shifted to high and rough for me all the time. I think it’s a happy medium now in drive mode

ECT still has a little better throttle response and still holds the shift for a higher MPH/RPM.

On the original tune, the problem was present regardless of normal or ECT mode.

Full tank of gas today to check the MPG impact, though I have read it isn’t impacted.

Took my ‘18 Tacoma into Right Toyota last Friday and they took care of it. With it being a 2018, they tried telling me it isn't applicable to the year. Had to do some convincing over the phone that it needed to be done. He agreed to make the appointment. When i dropped the off they car asked again what exactly the problem was. Let the advisor know that it “stumbles” a lot and its problematic when driving “up north”. Took 45 min and it’s really a day and night difference. This is what is should’ve been like from factory

Got mine done a couple Friday's ago and love it. Silky smooth, no lag, stronger powercurve.
Paid for OV and cancelled same day after discovering an extra adapter and laptop to install. The TPS release date timing was perfect.

Ok got a tank of gas through it, same exact mileage as before update.

Now while I love the difference the update made, and its night and day different than when it drove off the lot, I still believe it could be better.

    A lot better.

I believe that the throttle response could be improved and that the “stumble” which is still slightly present can be mitigated even more.

Who was the service advisor? Would you recommend them? I’m going to get this done at 10,000 miles

Has anyone done the TSB in the southern part of Arizona? I would love to drive up to Phoenix to do it but my schedule is tight at the moment.
