BAD CV Boots!?!

So I am under my 2009 TRD Off Road Tacoma doing a little undercoating when I notice some grease thrown here and there... I got curious and started looking a little harder and noticed my inner CV boot on the passenger side 4 wheel drive was shredded... Naturally I called the dealer and told them I wanted them to have a look... Took it in today only to be told that because I have Fox Shocks and Total Chaos upper A arms that they will not warranty the issue because the angle is not to factory specs... Ideas? I am probably gonna have to do the install myself... No worries but has anyone else ran into CV Boot issues with adjustable shocks!!

 

honestly.....instead of replacing the boots, i'd replace the cv. you can get them at advanced auto for a real good price...lifetime warranty...and they have better boots anyway. and it beats the time to remove the cv and replace the boot and all that crap.

just blew both my boots over the weekend at rausch creek was going to just replace the boots but now i'm think i'll take your advice and at least eliminate some of the work...

 

How many miles are people getting out of the OEM CVs with normal use and off road use.

Auto zone doesn't have a store near me. What brand are the replacements/best ones to purchase.

 

ok. well i went to autozone and advance auto, neither can order the shafts. autozone didn't even have them in their system, AA had them in the system but said they have never been able to order them, the manufacturer has not released them for aftermarket parts yet... they were about 70$ a piece.

here is the fun part, so me needing them badly decided to just check out the stealership... 500$ a piece!!! F THAT!!!!

So any suggestions on what to do?!? Please help!

those should work out fine.

 

Aftermarket CVs are not nearly as good as the Toyota ones, unless you shell out the big bucks. You're best bet, if you don't want to change them yourself, is to take it to a shop and have them done.

 

actually.......the ones from autozone and advanced are a good bit stronger than the toyota ones, and the boots are thicker and more pliable. just sayin.

 

I've used 3 types:
Stock Toyota
Cheap Auto Store Replacement
RCV Ultimate Toyota CV Axles

There is no way the cheapos are better than the stockers.

 

opinion man. i've seen quite a few stock cv's break.....havent seen any aftermarkets do that yet.

okay. so i see one. i still like aftermarkets...for my first gen...better than oem ones. like i said....opinion.

 

The first gens are a totally different story. The stock ones were weak shite.

well thanks for the input guys. Considering the money situation right now i'm going to give the aftermarket ones a try. well see how they do... in my right mind can not justify paying 500$ per side... thats just stupid. if they crap ill find out next time i go to rausch creek.
