I was told the same thing about the vin on my 16, apparently we have the only 3rd gens on the road that don’t qualify for the update

Find a different service center. Did you try Autonation? Are there really vins that don't qualify?

Has anyone actually been charged the diagnostic fee after the TSB service was applied?

I was quoted the diagnostic fee and it was waived because it was determined that my issue matched the symptoms listed in the TSB's repair procedure. If it hadn't matched, the instructions say the bulletin does not apply and to continue diagnosis - in this case you would have to pay the diagnosis fee that was quoted.

I don't get the logic there. Its an update. Why would you have to prove that you need an update? Maybe I am thinking that toyota should approach a computer/software issue like, well, a computer/software issue. Everyone who has that software gets the update in the computer world. Maybe I am missing something. I am going to print out the doc to take with me tomorrow, so I will read it more carefully.

A lot of Dealerships and Regions don't like doing T-SB's because they can't jack a profit. Their reimbursement barely covers cost/overhead.

It's all about time and money. If the dealer can't charge the time it takes the tech the apply the update back to Toyota, the dealership doesn't make money and the tech doesn't get paid. A dealership is in business to make money and the tech isn't going to work for free. Yes, it only takes 20 minutes to apply the update, but if a tech has to do six updates that he can't charge for, that's two hours he's not getting paid for.

That’s the way it should be. If it takes your dealer any longer than 30 minutes, it proves how incompetent they are.

I did mine in my driveway in less than 10 minutes. It literally walks you through it step by step. It’s the proverbial “so easy that a caveman could do it.”

Looks like having Toyota hq down the road is really affecting DFW dealerships... in a good way. Just got back from Longo Prosper and they did the TSB, no questions asked. Truck is driving better and acceleration def feels smoother. Tech also confirmed that updates for 58 and 62 were the same.

    None yet!
Just finished up at Jim Pattison Victoria.
They said they applied an 'update' and documented on the service sheet that an 'update' was completed.... but of course, there was no sticker to back it up so I had to ask the service advisor to have the mechanic properly fill out a sticker and throw it on. Pretty typical of my experience with this dealership.

I've only got 20km or so on it but the gearing feels tighter and more attentive. I'm not sure if the learning will kick in and dampen things but it feels good so far.

Called my selling dealer (Toyota of Richardson) was able to verify my vehicle was eligible for the TSB updates 0062-18 and 0058-18 made appointment for 10:00A Tuesday July 31st.
they sent me home in a Courtesy van, called at 4:30 picked me up. I am only amazed at the difference this has made in the around town, stop and go driving this has made. Even my wife who hates this thing has complimented the improvement. LOL to little to late thought, I had to buy har a new 4runner last month.

Called autonation and scheduled an appointment for this Saturday. The person that I talked to at the service department told me that they need to replicate the symptoms in order to perform any updates.

So, would an '18 with a build date on 3/18 benefit from this update? I'm not experiencing any throttle lag, but if this would improve overall drivability, I'm def down with testing the service after the sale rigamoro while it's still fresh on the tongues of those who spoke it.

If it helps, I drive 14 miles of Tennessee mountainous roads and 30 hwy on a given day, with interstate less than once a month. All with a heavy foot.

Maybe give it a month and see how this is panning out, or strike while the iron is hot?

Thx in advance, and best of luck to those dealing with "real" problems..
