This shit has been following Meyer around since the UF days. He was playing with fire down there, but had Tebow as a distraction. No positive light at OSU right now. This has a better chance of sticking. The Aaron Hernandez fiasco has tainted his resume. (There were more instances at UF with Meyer at the helm that most people dont know about... and I'd venture to say that there are things that only people well connected in the college football realm know about.)

With Hernandez being so prominent in the media, Meyer cant as easily shake that. The NCAA might get really interested in his processes.

I too doubt anything will actually happen....mainly because the NCAA crucified Paterno and Penn State, then ratified the consequences. I think most fans thought the penalties to Penn State were too harsh. Thats why they ended the scholly restrictions early.

NCAA wont want to have to do that again, so if Meyer does get anything, it will *seem* like a light punishment.

If Meyer reported it to the AD, he’s done his due part of reporting...soooo

I really don’t expect much more than media backlash

Yeah, (I know preseason polls dont matter) its funny how OSU is ranked higher than UGA to start the season.....

I wonder if any of this will affect how they are voted on later in the season.

Supposedly Meyer DIDN'T report it to anyone.....I think info said AD heard it from accused's wife, too.

So, IF the news is accurate: Meyer didn't tell any higher ups AND lied about his knowledge to the press and the world during BIG10 media days.

UM is not required to be truthful with the press. Who give's a F#CK what he told the press. It catches me the wrong way how the media keeps saying "but he lied during the big 10 media day". Sooooooo, he was not being deposed, he was not under oath. A reporter throw's him a loaded question and he fumbled it. No one is required to be honest with the media. As it is looking now UM did what he was required to do, if not they can't prove he didn't and the media should be ashamed that they had this dude nailed to a cross before he could turn around. If you have a top 25 program and you don't think there is a bunch of illegal shit in your closet your are an idiot. These schools are making millions just on the TV contracts alone. Our society needs to stop allowing our media to make news opposed to reporting it.

So.......Meyer has a CONTRACT to follow. Apparently that means nothing, JJ???

$$$$, primarily from TV has ruined sports, both college and pro - in my opinion.

Whatever happened to 'student athlete'??? Should maintain a minimum of 2.0 out of 4.0 in core classes to be eligible to play.

Players bitch about not getting 'paid' to play in college......no one FORCES them into doing that. And, a scholarship IS payment, like it or not. My daughter went to Pitt (out of state) at a cost of ~ $37,000/ year.....so an out-of-state athlete going there on a full ride is making $37,000+ per year. I am sure other schools have higher yearly costs. Now, if the player is not on scholarship, that is different.

She had several classes with both football and basketball players - some were smart, others were dumb as a bag of rocks and had NO BUSINESS being in college to get an education. They were only there to play a sport.

    Sorry for the rant.

Urban should've gone the POTUS route at his press conferences

Agreed. Most (if not all) programs have 'athlete test banks' and the coaches know what teachers will pass the kids and which teachers to avoid. Show up to class and you pass...it's a joke.

Then again, they're there to play football, not become the next Stephen Hawking, so I couldn't care less if they apply themselves or not, as long as they stay out of trouble.

If it were me, I'd make the most out of my free education and try to actually learn something so I could have a fallback plan when my NFL dreams don't pan out.

One route my friends and I have discussed that the NCAA could (but never will) take is to let the kids do what they want to make their own money. Being a D1 athlete and student, they don't have time to make money, so let them do autograph sessions and whatnot. The school is making money off them, so maybe they should get a piece of the pie. Just another way to look at it :notsure:

I do not disagree with you other than the fact that no one seems to be able to prove that UM did not follow his contract. I am a UVA fan so my school actually does uphold academic standards and that is why we suck. Of the big name coaches I tend to gravitate more to UM's coaching style opposed to say Nick Saban, I find it suspicious that while nailing Urban Meyer to a tree ESPN has been celebrating the greatness of NS all week. Overall I do not really have a dog in the fight I am just fed up with the media "investigating" and destroying people for the sake of ratings and our populace just eating it up. If you really want to investigate something it would be worth looking into weather the media actually paid this woman to come forward. I mean her story is incredibility shaky and the timeline of why and when she has come forward is a little suspect.

I am a Penn State grad and, looking at what happened to the program and Paterno, Why should Meyer and OSU be any different??? Don't take away any wins from either Meyer or the school while he supposedly said/did nothing - totally unrelated to football itself. Make him leave. Tressel was different - used ineligible players to win games.....they should have all been forfeits (losses) as opposed to whatever they called them (can't remember) as they didn't count as wins or losses for either team but counted as if they never took place.

By the way, Tressel is a NICE GUY - president of Youngstown State where my son is going to be a junior in a few weeks - talked to him a few times as has my son. Bringing in tons of $$$ for the ACADEMICS at the school. Really helping the student body academically!!!!

The PSU ordeal was a little bigger deal than this one. By the way I think Joe Paterno got railroaded on that deal. No way he knew about all that crap.

I don't deny the scope/severity of what Sandusky did.....he hopefully is getting what he deserves in prison!!! I would have liked to have seen him stoned to death by all the victims as they all couldn't have hung him. Maybe a firing squad???

Paterno told his higher ups, but supposedly just once and never followed up......that in my opinion is where he went wrong.

Should have revisited the issue with AD and others, but apparently he didn't. The penalties were too harsh against the team - they had nothing to do with it. Luckily all the wins were restored and the scholarships and bans were eased. That is why I don't think OSU football team should be punished, just Meyer and AD (and others who may have known), if all being said is true.

UNC supposedly has had academic cheating dating back to Dean Smith, and football too, nothing has come of all the potentially ineligible players there in both sports.

JJ: Agree on the muckraking versus factual news. I think tabloids started it years ago - in general - and now if it isn't controversial, it isn't news!!! At least it is mostly that way in our newspaper and local tv stations.

I used to watch ESPN Sportcenter every morning before work. They actually showed scores and highlights back then. Now, it is just a bunch of opinions by "experts" that usually create controversy. Haven't really watched it completely in years.

no worries man. I think UM should be in the clear but that's just because I like his style. Could be a complete dick for all I know.

The Rose Bowl is on SEC Network right now if any UGA fans want to re-live the glory of last season. It's midway through the 3rd quarter, and Chubb just scored on a long TD run to bring them w/in a TD.
