I've never sailed but it has always interested me. I have however owed several boats, and love working on them.

Beautiful boat. 10 knots of wind but you only have a 100%, or 110% jib up. No genoa? I've never been on a J80 so not sure what they carry. With the jib track so tight in to the center line do you even have the ability to run a genoa?

J/80 class rules allows the jib only. Many are rigged with a genoa track farther aft for non-class handicap racing, however. Of course there's a rating hit with a larger genoa.

Class racing is the best. No genny means a reduced level of cash going down the drain. Gotta like that. I was fortunate enough to race Class for a while. Santana 20's. Loved that little boat.

I probably mentioned it but America’s Cup Racing is nothing but a giant money pit.

At the time, my company assigned me to work for ESPN for the duration. One day, Dennis Connor’s people dropped off what I would describe as a brand new jib. Apparently, it was a month or so old. Time to go. All we did was drag it across the parking lot and shake it for the camera. The footage became background for graphics.

That’s when I realized racing was hella expensive and I was perfectly happy teaching small boat sailing. :D

I could get a 155 and add Genoa tracks farther after. However I sail on Buzzards Bay and it’s unusual to have less than 15. The 155 would have to come down in about 10knots. The PHRF rating hit would also be applied for the whole season not just the night I use it. The hit would probably be 6 seconds a mile and I would probably only use it twice. The correct 155 would be at least $3000. With the 80 being light and powered up i already move faster than most big boats when it’s dead.

I’m still hoping to find one on Baconsails for crusing or blast reaching. But I don’t think I will ever register for the Wednesday series. I might use it for a distance race here and there.

Oh, I've always known Americas Cup was a money pit. All you have to do is look at the list of names of the skippers in the early 1900's. Can you say, "Sir Thomas Lipton"? But, any boat can be a money pit. Remember the acronym B.O.A.T.? Break Out Another Thousand.
And my all time favorite phrase I heard a few decades ago was, "If it flies, floats, or fornicates; Rent It."

Very nice. What length? I spent my first serious sailing time on my best friends Pacific Catamaran (P Cat). We sailed the hell outta that thing. It was 18' 11" and also, had a spinnaker, and twin trapeze for hiking out. Amazing boat built in the late 60's in Newport Beach, CA. Yours looks like a fast one, as well. Didn't sail too many Hobie Cats. Couple here and there. Did, however, spend a lot of time on a Hobie 33, ULDB mono hull. It kicked ass.

Waiting for the last boat in the fleet to finish. Little tug decided to cross the finish line lol.

Went for a swim after getting back to the mooring. My friend started throwing crackers at me to attract seagulls. Had my phone in my life proof case for good picture.EA0F40E8-61E5-4631-A36D-9B7956E2E2F6.jpg

It's 16'7". The spin and trapeze are adopted from a Hobie 16. Not as fast as the 16 since the hulls are wider and more buoyant which makes it much more stable but not so fast. Per Hobie: designed as a "social" boat. lol. 1000 lbs capacity.

Went for a little sail last weekend, GF was guiding the slugs up the mast and says the luff is tight. I give one more lil crank on the winch to snug and lock the cleet...snap, the main falls back down, with the halyard jammed in the top of the mast. We take the jib halyard, wrap it around the mast and get the main up the 1st reef.

No Jib and 2/3 of a main that thing hardly moved, holy shit. After dropping the mast, figured out the pin must have come out and one end of the shackle bent back 90 degrees. Guess i should rig up a couple extra halyards to slap around and make annoying noises.

In better news...PINEDALE REGATTA this weekend!

Used to own a 83 Slipper 17 made by Starboard Yacht Company in Florida which became the Seaward 17 when they changed names. I really enjoyed that sailboat.

Just found mine that I sold to the guy in TX when he sold it. lol
