Trek bought them the year I bought the bike. I think it was like 5 years ago. My bike is only in as good shape as it is because I had a couple years of light riding after a back surgery :)

Makes you wonder if Trek would ever do anything with the brand since now they own it? I feel like fisher has more potential than to just be acquired and disposed of.

Trek actually bought Fisher way back in 1993, followed by Klein and Bontrager a few years later. I had a ‘97 Klein, post-acquisition but made in the US at Trek in Wisconsin (in-house welded frame, not just assembly). I’m pretty sure only the Bontrager name remains, for Trek’s component and accessory line.

Ah so that’s how bontrager came to be...I always figured it was just a name they developed for their in house components.

Considering that it's a multi thousand dollar bike I recommend the "fancy" tool. You can get frame/wheel bearing removal tools for less than $20. If you are determined to be cheep you can use a large flat head screw driver, just be careful that you strike the bearing in a way that you don't damage it if you plan to reuse it.

For removing pressfit bottom brackets use the park's tool

I can concur. I have 541 miles and 70K feet of elevation gain on my XO eagle and it's still smooth and wonderful.

That looked like a lot of fun. I was planning to go, but then decided to do truck stuff instead.

Knowing me, I would have snuck off the road and ridden all the MTB trails out there in the moonlight instead.

Yep, I buddy up at night. The woods get spooky, and nothing like a bit of labored breathing to telegraph "prey" to onlooking critters.

Hey, I am headed to Moab in October for the first time. Any experienced Moab riders think its necessary to get a guide for a day or more? I was planning on renting bikes and getting a shuttle from Poison Spider bike shop, but debating if it is worth it to get a guide? Thoughts?

LOL, I met Gary Fisher last year. Talk about an odd duck. Still really into the bike scene though. If Willy Wonka owned a bike shop, they'd cast him to be the main character for sure!

I'd say to spend your money on beer and tacos first. Just make sure your bike is in good condition. The Whole Enchilada has a habit of eating a few bikes a day in various ways, with a side helping of tubes, tires, and riders.
Hell if you want a guide, I'll come out and ride with you. You bring the beer, I'll cook up the tacos.

We can even do truck stuff if the time allows. :mudding:

I have come to the conclusion that I am primarily a road bike rider. We have done the Antelope ride for several years now. It is usually a lot of fun. I love coming back down the big hill and hitting 40mph in the dark with just a bit of head lamp. Had to many people hitting their brakes in front of me this year to really pick up the speed.

My favorite loop in Park City lets you bomb down PC main street (after hitting Java Cow for ice cream of course) after your ride back to the car. Probably one of my most favorite parts of riding in PC.
