I agree. $30 can of spray that may prevent me from getting gored seems reasonable.

Yeah, copay for the ER visit costs more than bear spray.

Bears are few and far between at Moab. Just not a hospitable environment for them. That said, it doesn't take a bunch of bears to cause chaos. They exist there, but very uncommon. I guess the best indicator was the lack of bear sprays available at outfitters located in Moab. Guide suggested we "take normal precautions and don't worry about them".

Well, yeah. Not worried about bears in moab. But for the couple days in colorado along the way, bears seem possible.

Does bring up some good points for the Moab trip. Many of our local trips have been base camp trips or hammock friendly, this trip will likely be neither. Definitely changes most peoples systems. Are we going to try to hammock between trucks for some people?

And with all the miles, Josh makes good sense to try to divide up the load of crap amongst people, so we can be as light as possible. It would be nice to develop a suggested packing list for any vehicle, and then have a group gear and packing list. like stoves. We don't need a dozen cooking stoves, dozen folding tables, dozen ezups, dozen fire pits, etc. Like I plan on bringing my propane fire pit if we plan to hit areas with burn bans

    http://discovermoab.com/fire-restrictions/

Also, to Josh's point, National Parks aren't typically pet friendly, if we plan on bringing pets, no national parks.

I plan to hit some parks next year. If daughter goes with me, i get free entry to most national parks. Don't think it covers camping fees though.
I think they call it "every kid in a park" or something like that.

Not planning on national parks in Utah because they're totally anti-pet. RMNP allows dogs in vehicles and places vehicles can get to, so if we go drive around there one day, it won't be a big deal.

As far as camping, I'm planning on tents.

I mean it's still a good jaunt for me, but I could probably scrounge some beer and track down a barbeque
