I want to replace the front & rear shocks on my 2002 tacoma. I believe the original shocks are still in the vehicle. I want a good shock that is reasonable in price . Any recommendations?

Bilstein 4600's are a great shock if you want to keep the stock height.

5100s are good if you want to give it a bit of a lift for nearly nothing (they are adjustable, so you set teh spring perch higher for a "lift"). The rear needs an add-a-leaf or shackles though.

Roughly $300 for all 4 corners. The cost difference between the 2 are negligible.

There are several vendors on this site that sell them, some even offer member discounts.

You know I used the Monroe quick lift struts and coils just because I drive so much. They are do able.
The best thing about them is they have a lifetime warranty, so I replace them every 50,000 for free at pepboys

And if you use the coupon pepboys installs them for 110.00 for the set.
So it’s like the lifetime warranty for alignment from firestone I have.

So bordering on "uncontrollably soft boat-like ride"?

I dont know man, I have Monroe's with the original coils and they are pretty bad. The truck has crazy body roll and it bounces like crazy on hard bumps. All my ball joints/tie rods/bushings are new too. The Monroe's replaced the original, completely blown original shocks that had 191k on them, and they are a very slight improvement.

Monroe's are just way too soft...

meh. I have sciatica, and my truck's ride is the least of my problems.

You're young, you kids still bounce when dropped... :D

I just prefer my trucks to drive like trucks. For that car-like ride I drive the wife's Corolla...

As we determined earlier, you just need to drive faster, lol

I dunno....whatever Rockauto sells. They are supposedly "OEM" quality, what was on the Tacoma's when new, but they are just junk. I've heard the same from several other guys on here

Close enough, all the OE replacement brands are made in the same plant (Tenneco)

Being made in the USA isn't a guarantee of a good product... Ford and Chevy are made here, too, lol
