I think that's called "The run around."

It’s their tune, flashed using their software. Doubt they’d have a leg to stand on.

And you can document labor that you do yourself in the ToyotaOwners app.

I suppose a guy could just say that a tech at a dealership did it in the parking lot as a favor. Give the dealership a bit of "the runaround" like they do to everyone else.

I just left my local dealer here in San Diego and as always they did a fine job with little to no questions asked. I did mention to them both of the tsb's and that they were the same but they said they would just look into. I left it with them for about an hour and a half while I went for a bike ride. Initial first impression is that the trucks shifting is a lot smoother. Again I'm coming from this truck that really wasn't that bad to begin (like others have encountered since new) which I think over time it did learn my shifting and driving habits. And again I should mention that I was using the ECT mod and then also the SSP. I just feel like there's a more of a steady stream of power while gunning it from a stop. I will report back later with more feedback.

Got it done at Autonation Gulf Freeway Htown. They never mentioned a diagnostic fee. They did say that they are required to replicate the problem before they can apply the update, which is really crappy on toyota's part. One person said this is really an unofficial recall. Anyway, they also reset the driver learning thing, gave it a bath, and gave me my plates. :D

The truck shifts like a normal truck! It is still a little slow to go, but the lag is gone! I think the slight hesitation is the learning thing. I won't be trading it in for a 2015! :bananadance:

I am told they are essentially the same, when I called my selling dealer he said he had to verify that my VIN fell in a certain range to qualify for the TSB update. It did and we set an appointment and had it done.
    Very happy result.

Does anyone also have recent memory of resetting their computer and feeling how an unlearned tranny shifts?

Yes, I just got mine reset. The truck is just a little slow to shift when I gun it, but it isn't the same as the drag from the computer issue. It goes, but a bit less smoothly than my old truck did after a few years in (except for the occasional drag uphill). Its hard to explain. There isn't a senior moment with the shifting like there was! It feels like the truck and I are getting to know each other. I also had to reset everything on the dash, ie, time, blue tooth, etc.

Just got back from the dealership. Although the representative has been nice over the year I've been going there. He however stated that they can't do any tsb until a tech goes out to drive the truck and replicates the problem. Is this something true?

If anyone is getting the run around from a dealer just call Toyota Corprate and complain. The TSB is good on trucks below 80k and even then I bet Toyota corprate wouldn’t hesitate to go beyond 80k miles for people.

This is a computer update from crappy shifting and lagging issues. It can turn into a safety and reputation issue for Toyota.

My truck has had all the older ECU TSB updates so my dealership knows me. I obviously have history on my truck that it has had shifting issues.

This is the way it is supposed to be. Make the call to Toyota, have your VIN handy.

Anyone from Utah get this updated yet? Have appointment at Karl Malone on Tues. I won't be surprised to get shot down based on past experience with them, but we'll see.

In and out in an hour, including a wash. No questions asked they just do it.

Shifting seems noticeable smoother in city driving.

Just called corporate they also kept saying the techs have to replicate the problem. Toyota corporate rep over the phone just "escalated" it.

This update should be a safety recall. I almost got in a wreck on the freeway last week because I tried to change lanes on a busy freeway and the truck wouldn't go. I am with the poster who suggests calling Toyota corporate if a dealership tries to charge you or says you don't need it and you know the truck has lag. BTW, my service rep called it lag.

This sounds subjective! Are they using diagnostics or a drive around the block to decide whether you need it or not? What if you have an idiot who does the attempted replicating?
