4Runner Prices

To those of you who made the jump to a 4Runner, what did you pay OTD? Going to the dealer to have my 20k service on my truck and have them do the new transmission TSB but I’ll be looking at a 18’ TRD Off-Road 4Runner they got on the lot while I get the taco serviced. They have it priced at $36,200. Curious to see what people have paid for theirs.

I’m in Oregon so any fellow Oregonians who purchased in state would be the biggest help!

Redesign coming soon for 4R. Depends on your purchase schedule. But I would wait if I were you and see what that would bring. An 18 offroad will always still be available. That seems like a great price though.

 

That’s what I’m contemplating. They released the 2019, exact same thing. I’m hoping they will do a complete redesign for the 2020 but who knows, there has been no indication towards that. I can always upgrade again

But yes $36,200 doesn’t seem bad for a TRD off road, and there’s no taxes here in Oregon so I’d be close to $37,000 OTD with all the other fees.

 

I'd get the current 4runners with the 4.0 liter motors in them. Other wise the new redesigned ones will probably have the pos 3.5l with the awful transmission.

 

That what you think or do you have any info on the 3.5 in new 4R?

 

Highly likely. They are trying to save as much money as possible by using the 3.5l across platforms. Sad they put it in the Tacoma. It's not a truck motor.

 

The interwebs are saying the 3.5l will carry into the redesign. Whether the T4R will have the same transmission map of the early 3rd gen, highly unlikely but the hardware will be the same.

My guess is the mapping will be the result of what they glean from the transmission survey sent to 3rd gen owners

Nothing wrong with the motor and transmission, it's the mapping program people are complaining about.

 

could try trolling the forums.

1. the 4.0 is either good enough or not enough, depends on who you ask
2. good part is, the 4runner is still only made in the tahara plant in japan.
3. redesign is rumored to be in fall of 2019 (2020 model year) with showing in jan-feb of 2019 auto show.
4. the 4.0 engine is tuned differently between the 2nd gen Tacoma and 5th gen 4runner even though it was the same engine, I imagine this will be the same for the 3.5 engine
5. the 5 spd in the current 4runner could be improved with a new 6 spd or maybe drop in the new 8 spd to improve the mpg. but then if you look at the land cruiser, they have the 8 spd in them but the mpg doesn't improve more than maybe 1 mpg tops 2 mpg compared to the old 6 spd I think.

5 spd (16 mpg) to 6 spd (17mpg) to 8 spd (18mpg) highway stats.

 

Is this based on what you read or do you have any practical experience? FYI All five of my toyota trucks had truck motors, even the two with less than 175 hp and I was able to do truck things just fine with them.

 

My wife drives a 2018 trd off road T4R with leather seats and the manual transfer case stick shifter like my FJ has. very nice, i think the dealership calls it the trd premium package. This and the lifetime warranty was around $40k.

 

well the Tacoma and 4runner have been using the same 4.0 v6 engines since 2002 for the 4runner and 2004 for the Tacoma (1GR-FE v6) and it will probably be a good guess that the new 4runner will use the same 3.5 v6 (2GR-FKS v6) as the Tacoma.

 

The ONLY grip I have about the 4runner is literally everything about the interior. It's about 13 years old.

 

its about 10 yrs old , you should have seen the interior on the 4th gens. that stupid star pattern control for the hvac was horrible. at least they had the window control on the door arm unlike the 5th gen where its on top of the door sill.

The 4.0L in my book is on par to the 3.4L.

It’s a gas guzzler, but it performs. It has the power and reliability. If the new 4Runners got the 3.5L I imagine it’ll be the same scenario where it’s remapped. Those 3.5L’s are capable of a lot more power than they come with in the Tacoma’s. As long as they do something about the current mapping to where it is efficient and has power in the new 4R’s, I might still consider. What would make me the happiest is if they stick the Tundra’s V8 (4.6L) in some of them if the 2020 4Runner is just worse than the current 5th gens I might just get a good deal on a 2019 instead.

 

Yep, old as hell. All they do is small cosmetic changes. Time for a big change!

 

The premium here goes shy of $39k. I’m just wondering if there are any major differences from the Pro. My dealer had a 2018 Pro not too long ago for $45,000. If the additional features are worth it the Pro might be more
Optimal as you can sale the suspension and anything else that isn’t liked (like the HIDEOUS roof rack).

 

As of January 2018 Oregon has a 0.5% sales tax on new Vehicles.

 

they wont put the v8 back into the 4runner cause it steps all over the lexus gx series. that was the main reason it dropped after the 4th gen and wasn't available for the 5th gen.

since the lexus gx is pretty much a 4runner why would buy a lexus gx when you can get the same capability in a 4runner for about 10-20k less.
