4Runner Prices

Ooooo, totally spaced that. As Oregon calls it, an opportunity tax or whatever the hell its called. Doesn’t amount to much though, .5% of 40k is only 200 so it’s fairly insignificant. Now if it was 5%, then there would be issues

 

The GX is for the soccer moms who need their seats and steering wheel warmed during winter

They are nice and if i just had money itching in my pocket why not off-road/overland in style?
I’m all about practicality though so spending an extra 10k-20k for the same thing but with bells and whistles seems pointless.

 

I think the only differences are suspension, the blacked out badges, grill, and of course paint variants. My wife even has crawl control in her's.

 

That is basically all who drive 4R anymore so . I can't remember the last time I saw a man driving a 4R tbh.

 

The only time I see a dude driving a 4Runner is when it’s lifted and has something done to it to where you know it’s obvious they off-road it and use it for what it’s known for. Other than that, you see a stock 4Runner with maybe tinted windows and dipped badges and you know it’s a woman

 

I've been thinking of getting one for the wife, I've always needed to have a bed so I've had a Taco.

 

Just bought a 2018 4Runner SR5 Premium 4x4 for the wife. Wanted the Off-Road but you cannot get a third row in the Off-Road. They don't move much off of sticker. Every dollar I wanted closer to invoice was a fight.

The 4.0 in the 4Runner is much smoother than the one in my 09 Tacoma. Definitely not the same engine. Premium gas ups the hp/tq quite a bit. I experimented a little with her 2014 4Runner with different grades of gas and the difference was noticeable.

Quite a few guys back a programmer on the 4Runner forum and swear by its performance increase.

 

It’s the same engine just different mapping/tune. It’s putting out about +40HP compared to your Tacoma. And I didn’t know about the 3rd row seating. That may be a deal breaker for me. What baffles me is how the SR5 premium is more than the off-road. I do want the crawl control features though so hopefully Toyota does something new maybe by 2020.

The website has the TRD off-road here listed for $36,200 with an MSRP of $38,300.

The SR5 premium is right up at $38,000.

 

It's a different 4.0 but in the same family. The oil filter locations are different between the 2.

I will say go 4Runner if you don't need a bed. It has a 23 gallon fuel tank which is 2 gallons more than a Tacoma, Japanese quality, and shorter wheel base.

 

Not quite true: Dual VVT-i (4runner) vs VVT-i (taco).

 

We have both my ‘17 Taco and ‘17 T4R SR5 Premium (wife), we got it for a little over $36k otd MSRP was close to $40k....the 4Runner may be outdated but it’s a wayyy more comfortable then the Taco, it has decent power and it’s built solid no question about it.

 

There is a Oregon vehicle privilege tax on new cars, trucks, motorcycles etc. it’s 0.5-1% of the msrp.

 

I think governor Brown can go to hell over all of it, it’s another progressive tax to be more like California. They only use the money to pay pensions and other unfunded liabilities. Very little gets spent on pot hole repair or anything else for our roads.

 

My buddy has a 18 4R SR5 and it is not completely better in build quality like everyone claims. He's got quite a few gripes. It could be said that in some areas it seems better quality but I'd have to have alot more of a prolonged ownership in 5th gen to narrow it down. That being said I know for a fact it has interior rattles and soft easily scratched/scuffed interior plastics that seem cheap. I still love 4R though dispite the minimal annoyances.

 

I considered a swap to the 4Runner a few weeks ago. Went to the dealership to test drive, figure out numbers, etc. In the end, I felt there was no advantage going to the 4Runner except the rear seat room and front seats (ability to lower/raise). It felt sluggish at highway speeds, MPG was much worse, handled wasn't great, and some interior quirks (what is up with the window switch placement in those things??) had me gladly driving back out in my Tacoma. Plus, I'd lose the bed.

I would wait for 2020.

 

It's funny - there have been a few times since I bought my truck in January that I've considered a mod or an accessory purchase and thought to myself "damn, you should've just bought a 4Runner". haha
But my Diamondback cover is being shipped today, so any dreams of a trade-in are put aside.

 

The "lifetime warranty" being that it's made by Toyota, or is there actually a lifetime warranty product sold by the dealership??

 

I have some hunting ground that has some pretty gnarly logging roads on it that I use regularly (w/ less than a few inches of snow on them) and I have not found the Multi Terrain Select or the Crawl Control all that worthwhile. Technical offroading I could see it as a benefit, but I don't have the bank account to use my $35k truck for that kind of stuff!

My rear locker has saved my butt in some muddy/slick spots a few times though. If they put that and A-Trac in an SR5 4Runner w/ a 3rd row, you'd be set!

 

There is no lifetime warranty from Toyota. It's just a dealership gimmick. Most of these warranties mandate you get your vehicle serviced at the dealership at every service interval, including oil changes. They know most people sell their vehicles long before any major problems arise, and they make a grip on all the maintenance and repair visits. They're no dummies.

Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep offered a lifetime warranty to original owners back around 2006-07. I thought maybe I missed something...
