Can I use the coil/springs from my 2005 SR5 on front struts from a 2017 trd? The ones I’m looking to buy don’t come with them.

For those going from older 2nd gen suspensions to the relatively new 3rd gen suspensions, any difference in ride quality? Or just more crisp and back to how the original stock felt?

having put a '16 TRD 4x4 (front struts and springs and rear shocks from the '16 model) suspension on my truck which is a 2011 ride quality was maybe just a touch firmer, pulling in my driveway I can tell it does not have that hard hitting bump feel, of course I don't pull into the driveway very fast, the price was right for the 16 TRD suspension and I felt it was an upgrade to the non TRD suspension the truck came with, all in all I am happy with the upgrade and ride quality and how I use my truck. I would recommend this upgrade especially how budget friendly it can be for the non TRD trucks. Keeping in mind my truck is just an SR5 4x4 with a nice TRD upgrade now.

For me it would be difficult to compare as I replaced completely worn TRD Sport 2nd gen shocks with 125k miles on them for brand new take off 3rd gen TRD Sport shocks. Difference was night and day. There is however no point of reference to compare the two for me as the old ones gradually deteriorate day by day over the years and is impossible to remember exactly how they felt new.

That being said, 3rd gens feel like stock replacement on my 2nd gen to me. If I did not know whats under me, I would have never guessed it isn't factory suspension designed for this truck. 3rd gen trucks are about 200lbs heavier on average, correct? Based on that they may be a hair stiffer riding on our trucks? :notsure:

I'm thinking about doing the same, have a 2012 DCSB 4x4 with 160k on it, don't need an upgrade in suspension, but if I can get stock trd 2016 to 2018 with low miles, figure it might be worth it.

This is important. I had a 2013 w/ 2 leaf + overload and replaced it with a 2016 leaf pack ( 3 + overload). You get a lot better handling characteristics out of the 3-leaf pack. It's similar (if not identical) to the "Sagging rear TSB" spring pack that people were getting for a long time.

Hello, I am the new owner of a 12' TRD Sport with about 25k miles. I have seen quite a few of the Gen 3 suspensions for sale at a cheap price and I'm thinking of putting the Gen 3 coilovers from a TRD-OR on the front to get the 1" lift. From what I have read there doesn't seem to be any point in putting the Gen 3 rear leafs and shocks on my truck since it will not provide any lift, is this correct? I have no plans on going off-road or adding larger tires I'm just thinking of doing this because I am in need of an alignment and figured why not add a new shocks and springs up front while I am at it. Would the truck look strange with a 1" lift in the front and no added lift in the rear?

I have 3rd gen suspension all around, but stock 2nd gen recall leaf pack. (4 leafs). Had 2" of rake, now I have 1" rake. From certain angles, looks almost level. Looks great and better than stock imho.

2017 TRD Sport suspension on 2007 SR5. Not very scientific, but with my body weight, the back goes down about 2 inches and the front goes down zero with my body weight. 185 lbs. I bought a 3G sport and a 3G offroad suspension. I like the Sport enough to just leave it on. I will post the 3G offload suspension for sale when I have time.

I realize this topic has been beaten to death already, but is all the geometry the same for all cab/bed sizes? like there arent longer leafs or anything in double cabs? I have an 09 standard cab 4wd and am looking at a stock 2017 setup for $650. not sure what cab setup it came from. Worth it?

I agree with mangler, keep looking! I like him have $190/200ish (that was for parts only not installed) in front and rear suspension from a 3rd gen and these were new parts.

Do not buy those! Like others said, You can find them for $200 or less! Yes, all cabs are the same. There should be a forum on here for your area, check that for people selling.

Like right here... took 2 minutes in our very own "3rd gen parts for sale" forum here on TacomaWorld...

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-trd-or-factory-suspension-components.545431/

Don't bother doing that shit local, just ship it. Unless you're shipping leaf springs shipping will be nothing to worry about.

Is this because of spring rate or is the 16+ coilover longer?

I just posted a question regarding third gen suspension and someone pm'd me. Install was 30 minutes per side. I added wheeler's 1.5" add a leaf in the rear and removed the overload leafs. The truck rides and looks great.

The shocks and springs in front are taller.

The 16+ coil spring is 1” longer than a second gen, this is what provides the lift. I believe the 3rd gens spring rate is also higher.

Found a set of offroad off a 2017 for $200. Long drive to get them, put them on that night. The ride is definetly smoother. I had the sr5 shocks with 40k on. Fronts before 35 1/2 after 36 1/4 Back 36 1/8 after 36 1/2. Measured twice before and after. Front was off 1/4 before now its even. Definetly recomend this to anyone wanting to do. Took a drive on some rouph backroads, no more bounce like the sr5 shocks. Big improvement offroad. Thanx to all tacoma worlders for the ideas on this site.
