Hi everyone, it has been awhile since I posted since getting my Smart car 3 months ago. The ride in my Taco is much better, but it is hard to beat 38mpg in the city (with LIGHT FOOT on the pedal) and 30mpg (at 4000rpm)

So if I don't have a reason to keep the Taco (ie: Hurricanes) then I will sell it in a couple months. I hate to let it go since investing $5k in stereo, exhaust, bull-bar etc - but it makes no sense to keep a $550/month payment + insurance if I am not using it.

Is anyone else leaving the Taco at home to drive a more gas friendly car or maybe sold theirs because of the gas crunch?

Just asking because I feel guilty about selling this beautiful do-it-all truck...

Absolutely not. Gas prices will go, and have gone, down as I've said over and over. An infant cannot fit in a Smart car and I don't have a death wish so I won't be buying one of those.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
For me I will never drive one of those little death traps. I drive the Taco and the wife a 4Runner because a few $'s at the pump are not worth the safety you have to give up. Just my point of view, I also like to feel like I have a pair when I pass people. Again just my .2

I think just being a Marine grants you that safety, no matter what you drive. Just stick an EGA on it. :D

Personally - I haven't even gotten my Taco yet. I got hyped up on Tacos when gas was at it's peak (4.60+ here in San Diego), and barely gave it any thought about considering another vehicle.

Well I can see where this poll is going. Truck people are truck people. They don't drive Smart cars. I guess we drive dumb trucks instead, lol!

BTW, don't anyone get homotional and bent out of shape. This is all purely opinion, obviously.

My name is WilsonTheDog and I approve this message.

Unless you put a big chunk of change down for the Tacoma you will come out with a loss. Better to pay a few extra bucks each fill up than lose several thousand $$$'s on a trade in or selling it outright. The $5K you've invested in the extras should be sold and put the $$ against the principal of your loan, then possibly refinance at a cheaper rate to lower your payment. I hope you paid cash for all those extras and didn't ring up CC debt. Are you also carrying a note on the Smart Car? It would make more sense to sell it (probably more demand than for the Tacoma), and put the montly payment toward your Tacoma loan each month. Just my $0.02.

I just bought one in spite of gas prices. :D Smrt Cars are death traps, and gas prices will go down again.

People that drive Smart cars (and hybrids) are probably not smart enough to crunch the numbers. There was an interesting piece on NBC news where the reporter crunched the numbers for this woman who wanted to sell her SUV at a huge loss and buy a small fuel efficient car. It worked out that it was going to take 52 years to break even on the sale of the SUV vs. buying the new car. However, even when presented with the numbers the woman still wanted to unload the SUV.

Hell I bought mine for the gas prices. Went from no mpg in my old 94 chevy 4x4 to my taco and it is great to get 18-20 mpg. No cars for me, I got hit in my GF Echo and it just crumpled up and I hurt for 3 months.

Haha, Yep!! I have nothing against being environmentally friendly, but all the enviro-cars are ugly as hell. And as far as trucks go, my new 4 banger should get the same mileage as many larger cars.

My friend has a theory that people are the opposite of type of car they drive. Smart Car driver are rarely smart, Ford Focus drivers rarely focus...

Your friend's logic is flawed. Greatly.

I will be getting a Taco, and I love to eat tacos.

(Then again, I've never set foot in Tacoma, WA, so I dunno...)

Sell it because of gas prices? No.

The only thing I'd sell it for is a WRX. That's it.
