I'm seeing a charge of $120 for "mud guards" on some 3rd gen invoices. What are mud guards? I assume them to be mud flaps behind the tires? So are they different than trucks with normal mud flaps? Thx

Wait... it looks like they're simply mud flaps. So are some trucks shipping with no mud flaps? It caught me off guard as an "add on". I always just assumed these would come as standard equipment.

The mud flaps are an option

Anyone else think this is weird? Mud flaps were once standard equipment

Not really, anything they can figure out how to charge you extra for they will.

Yeah I'm looking at two trucks. One has the $129 mud guard add-on, the other does not. So I could drive my new truck home and have paint chips by the time I get there. This is absurd.

Mud Flaps used to be Standard Equipment and things like Air Conditioning and Power Windows were Options, so it is just reversed now.

No mud flaps is ALMOST into no rear view mirror territory. Not quite, but definitely headed in that direction.

I got mine without, I didn’t like how ridged the Tacoma ones are, wife’s 4Runner are very flexible great for trails. I got the rekgen XL for the Tacoma.

I'm worried about driving 100miles home from the dealer with no mud flaps and getting road rash.

Mud flaps that fit your truck perfectly are available from many aftermarket auto supplies,or on line starting about $35.00 per set of 4 if you can operate a 10mm socket on a 1/4" ratchet with a short extension
you can put them on yourself.

Put painters tape on the areas of concern.

I put on Rekgens for about $73 shipped. Way better than the stock hard plastic crap mudguards. OP, I would look at Rekgens or Rokblokz. Unless your 100 miles home is pure gravel doing 70mph you will be fine.

I bought oem mudflaps on Amazon. I've beat the fuck out of mine and they look good still. They folded in half and didn't break.

    None as of yet
mine didn't come with them. And Toyota puts thicker paint at the base to fend off rock chips and some areas even have a clear protective cover.

Opt out of the mud flaps and purchase a pair of Rek Gens for 90 bucks. Way better than factory. Just put a pair on mine. There was a group buy about a week ago. Not sure if it’s still going.
