When my radio comes in I'll see if I can find a good spot to mount it. I've got a couple ideas, and it would be pretty easy for me to 3D print something that will hold it for cheap.

I'd be interested in something like that, mine takes up a cup holder when I take it along.

If you guys are into storm spotting, do you use APRS at all?

Yeah, I don't like things rattling around. Don't really want to stick a permanent sticker anywhere either. There could be a reasonable suction cup mount or something already. Guess I better search before wasting too much time.

I know this is quoted from 2398493245 pages ago due to all the hammers talk, but I am still rockin (pun intended) XM. I got a deal about 6 years ago paying 9 bucks a month and every time I get an email saying my rates are going up I just tell them I want to cancel and they give me the "ok we will give you 1 more year at this rate" speech.

Also, DAMN at the coms talk! I will be getting a CB when I finally get to wheel.....arguments proceed.

Martin pays like 5 bucks a month and always gives them the same spill of cancelling. Just letting you know you could get a couple more bucks.

Also, still surprised the amount of pages that this conversation has gone on...without my participation...

I've looked at it during severe weather outbreaks but that is all. I use Radar Scope that Trey ( @BamaTaco56 ) told me about to find locations of spotters and various reports. I'm looking to get more involved in it once I have my HAM

Edit: The first time I saw APRS was when somebody on here was going to rescue someone out West that had broken down. Somebody posted a link or something. That was a few years ago.

I cancelled it yesterday. They wanted to give me a sweet deal but, I really don’t listen to it. If I’m in the car I’m usually returning phone calls or listening to downloaded music. With football coming up it will be local stations. The kids only want to rock downloaded music. When traveling this summer we rarely listened to XM. It was all downloaded. Things were different when I was in car 2 hours a day. I can always go back and add if I start having withdrawals. Left it in my wife’s cause she travels for work.

Same concept. Live telemetry (if you want) with a visible comment field and you can even text message to another ham through it . No cell service needed if everything goes down. Can do it all through radio .

We also use it for those trails that have that turn off which 100% of the people trying to find it miss. So we flip on our telemetry for the late arivers and they can see next to our call sign whcih frequency we are saying that we are monitoring, our current location if turned on, but also a line of the track we took on a map.

Well that's just cool! I need to look at it more often and figure it all out. I know the WX are weather sites. I assume the little yellow houses and stationary setups at home? I get the tower symbol. Is there a key anywhere on that site explaining things?

That sounds awesome! Is the radio feeding data into your phone somehow I guess?

There is a legend somewhere. You can also pick your own icon to represent you. Car. Truck. Person hiking. Horseback. A lot of times you can select the list mode instead of map mode and all sorts of neat info pops up .

Sure is .The channel for the USA 144.390. you can get a cable or a blue tooth connect for a computer, tablet or cell phone to your radio and it'll transmit and received the data. No cell towers, no problem
