Should have been more specific, sorry. I meant, when you swapped out the suspension, did you convert the rear to coil/shock and completely rid the bags? If you did go coil/shock, how does it feel compared to having the bags?

Yes. I pulled the bags. I did the metal tech 2.0 conversion kit with Icon dual spring rate overland coils. They ride nice on the road. Haven't taken them off-road. They are a lot stiffer on the speed bumps in my neighborhood then the bags. I'm running them with extended travel 2.5 king resi shocks. Also, I pulled the rear sway bar. Running a front though

Thanks for the info man! I'm about to order some suspension for my GX, but was curious if anyone had kept the rear bags when they upgraded, as I thoroughly enjoy having the bags.

I loved the bags. I wanted to get the spacer for the bags but I was worried about blowing a bag on a trip. Coils are just way more reliable but probably don't ride as nice.

Would have to agree there. I worry about my bags all the time. Especially since they are fairly old. I'm waiting for the morning I come out to my truck and the back side of my truck is hunched over.

I love the lift I went with but in hind site I probably would have got softer coils. Im sitting at about 3.5 inches of lift in the rear. The font is extended travel kings with 650lb springs and TC upper control arms. Ill be adding sliders next then a roof rack. then rear tc links and tc lower control arms.

To be totally realz, I dont know. I would like to get a kit so its easier and less stress, but not many places make kits for the GX as of late. Most folks are piecing kits together from different companies. I'm stuck between the Toytec kit and kings. I know The Toytec kit isn't the most popular choice around these areas, but it will do the job for me at least in the foreseeable future. We'll see though.

Also, when you getting your GX man?! We need a Norcal GX crew to help offset the 4runner/tacoma groups. :D

I have to say, I am impressed with how quickly you are building your GX. Seems like the GX will fit the bill for you guys moving forward with everyday errands and trips. sliders and a roof rack are on my list as well, but need to hash out the suspension situation first and foremost.

Yeah, I love it. The v8 is awesome. I've done all the maintenance and I trust the rig. Its the wife daily. she drives 12 miles a day. We will be using it to drive to Tahoe every weekend this winter to visit my in-laws and use our season ski passes at northstar. We originally bought the jeep to drive to Tahoe every weekend but we have outgrown it with the dog and the baby. Tons of room In the gx though.

Yeah the GX is incredible. I've put about 11k miles on mine since buying it in December 2017, and it has been a dream to drive every day I have owned it. I love that the 3rd row comes out completely and the 2nd row can fold up for more space. My wife, dog, me and all my gear can fit with room to spare and still be comfortable.

Only downside for me is the fuel economy, but again, for how well it is and performs in every other category, I have learned to deal with it.

Better than me. Wish I was getting 17 highway. I'm stuck around 13-14 mpg. I may need to go over and do some more maintenance work to help boost it up another mile or two per gallon.
