Hey guys i installed 5100 & 887 but also added a 1/2" top plate to driver and 1/4" to passanger in order to push it up to match HD dakars better. Everythings fine, cv boots are better now after settle and diff drop
But
On some mild pot holes the front end bangs hard. Harder than when it was stock. Could it be my bump stops, or the shock maxing out its compression. I jacked it up from the lca and came nowhere near the bumps before the coil lifts the truck. Any advive would be appreciated

The springs will compress way more when it's on the road doing its thing but you knew that already. Try putting a gopro down there are reproduce the issue to see if it's the bumpstops. I'm not sure if they make them for 3rd gens but I like my wheelers superbumps. Affordable and they get the job done.

 

I would assume the Wheelers superbumps would work. The third gen bumpstops look identical to the 2nd gen part.

 

Those were my thoughts also. Ill find a mount and stick on under there. Wheelers bumps say 2005+

 

Well I decided to "throw some pucks in there". The 1/2" pucks are supposed to give 1" of lift according to headstrongoffroad's site. My installed ordered pucks yesterday and I will make an appt to have them installed when they arrive. The bad part is that since installing them requires the struts to come apart, this inch of lift is gonna cost me another $330.

 

My 887’s are making way more clunks now with the added weight of a winch up front. I guess that would make sense that it’s the bump stops in my situation.

 

Im gna stick a gopro under there and investigate. Also re-torque

 

I am having OME suspension put on by a Toyota dealer the end of next month, I ordered NitroCharger Sports, 886's, and HD Dakar Leafs. I went with 886's due to Demello 3-hoop bumper (120lb) I am having put on with a Superwinch (60lb).

My concern is that I am getting the suspension, new wheels, and new tires done in Montana then doing a road-trip to LA to have Demello do the install of the bumper. Any reason other than a stiff ride up front not to do this?

I am a cheap ass and didn't want to pay for freight shipping when I was going to be in Cali anyways.

 

@sorgon82 , @BraskaTaco , stupid question but did you guys do the ecgs bushing to replace the needle bearing? Could that be where the clunk is coming from?

I did do mine yes. 2 days after suspension install. That was more of a mild rumble strip vibe tho. This is definetly smacking the bump stops or a full compressed shock. Not sure yet.

@crashngiggles its not a clunk at all. Im using 5100 with the 887. Its a hard bang on the frame sounding like. Dont get me wrong its only happened a hand full of times not every day. But it never hit that hard on stock suspension going over the same pot hole probably. Girlfriends said nemerous times "i thought this was supposed to make your suspension better" blah blah blah lol

You could be right. Never happened on speed bumps tho. Just pot holes.. Im 5100 also not sure if thats just an ome thing. Ill know this weekend when i stick the gopro under there

 

I love my OME suspension. I just don’t know why it clunks allot and the leaf springs squeak sooo freakin much

 

It doesn't happen with 5100s so that's probably not your problem.

 

Is it the valving on OME shocks that causes over-bump clunk?

I'm considering OME coilovers after I add about 290 lbs (winch, hybrid bumper, skids, half the weight of my sliders) of static load towards the front of my truck. I have two questions and would like some advice...

Coil choice question:
I'm comparing the stiffness of 885 to 886. If the 886's are 70 lbs/in stiffer than 885's, I should expect the 885's to sag 2 inches more than the 886's under static loading (2 in x 70 lbs/in = 140 lbs per side... x 2 tires = 280 lbs... close to my added weight). So I should likely go with 886. Am I thinking right on this?

Shock choice question:
If I go with 886, I am concerned about the stiffer ride quality, as my truck is also my daily driver. Looking at a few shock options (Bilstein 5100's, OME 90021, OME 90000), which will provide the smoothest ride on road and handle decently well off road? Or is there another shock I should consider that has adjustable valving for off and on road?
