4Runner Prices

Talked to my dealer about this just a couple hours ago, biggest redesign for 2019 is the entune update, basically putting the tacoma display and tech into the T4R. Big redesign is supposed to be 2020, but according to him they're going to look like a big highlander.

I have the tacoma, wife has a 15 T4R SR5 premium and we're thinking of trading for a 19 pro (or at least I am)

 

That's been my biggest fear- that they're going to turn the 4Runner into a station wagon like they did with the Nissan Pathfinder. It used to be a truck. Now it's a car. Seems to be the trend. Same thing happened with the Explorer.

 

Look up the Australian version of the T4R and you'll see sort of what it's expected to look like.

 

Been wanting one for years. Can't justify the near $50k price here in Canada. If they sold an "SR" version, with a 6mt in the mid $30k range I'd be all over it.

 

this is very true. i only ever see women driving 4r's. either base sr5's up to limited's.

 

Very 470 like if this is the route Toyota does decide to go with it. Some 470's are pretty badass not going to lie.

 

that's the fortuner which is not offered in Japan, Europe, North America, China or South Korea market. its built on the hilux frame. not an apples to apples comparison.

edit : the 4runner (name is exclusive to USA, but is sold in the United States, Canada, Central America, Bahamas, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile). the other countries is usually called the land cruiser prado.


edit 2: all other countries new models (and its features) have never crossed over to the 4runner. usually the engine and transmission and bodystyle never are direct crossover from what I remember.

The Fortuner is a nice looking rig. Not sure about performance. Saw a bunch in Thailand last year.

 

Just bought the wife an SR5 premium with the pro wheels/tire package. $37,289.00 plus TL. Plus sunroof - no third row. Sold my re-geared 17 OR AC for $31,800 on CL.

We kept our 2018 taco pro ......that’ll be the toy. The ram diesel remains the work rig.

The 4Runner is all about simplicity. The simpler, the better. I would not be interested in a 4Runner if they became more refined or complicated.

 

I'm baffled at the difference between the SR5 Premium with sunroof and Off-Road/Off-Road Premium with sunroof as well. Either the SR5 should be much cheaper or the OR should be much more expensive. On top of the third row issue, my wife wanted the color combo of nautical blue on the outside and beige on the inside that was not available with the Off-Road model. I have to admit, it looks pretty damn nice for what it is. I have a set of TRD SEMA rims I was going to put on my 17 Tacoma along with the OEM TRD Bilsteins everyone bought when Toyota was clearing them out. I'm looking at getting a LC and have shelved the Bilsteins in my office but think I will put the SEMA rims on the wife's 4Runner. Toyota sells an Off-Road package that is not the Pro that has these rims and it looks sharp in the nautical blue color.

As others have said, there is quite a bit more in difference between the engines. I no longer have the 09 Tacoma but will say that I could break the rear tires loose whenever I wanted to (even with heavier E/10-Ply BFG AT 265/75/16) at a either a dead stop or a rolling 25 mph. The wife's 2014 4Runner wouldn't even chirp the stock OEM tires. I know that this says nothing scientific/analytical about the engines but I always thought it odd. I like that different octane ups the hp/tq rating in the 4Runner and the smoothness of the power delivery. Someone on the 4Runner forum has a good article about what different grades of gas does for this motor.

Someone spoke about build quality in a couple of threads after yours. Initial build quality of both the 2014 and 2018 were/are impeccable. Exactly what you expect in a brand new vehicle. I never had that feeling with my 09 or 17 Tacoma. The 2014's newness wore off quickly though. Dated interior, tiny navigation screen, easy scratch plastics, etc. At 55,000 miles or so, the vehicle felt tired; inside and out. Granted, my wife does not take care of her vehicles but I was surprised at how quickly it aged. Even the motor felt tired. There were several rattles going over bumps that always felt like a motor/radiator/cab mount. I could hear a loose bearing rattle sound under the hood and always questioned either the alternator or the HVAC. The power seats grinded and skipped moving forward and in reverse. The radio/navigation reset itself several times a trip. In between resetting itself the screen would freeze and you could not change the station, etc.

You will be glad to know that the designers of the 4Runner either have the same mentality as the Tacoma designers or are indeed just the same. For example, the transmission in the 2014 felt clunky/lurchy at times for no reason. And the AC drips directly on the frame and immediately starts an area of rust. Seriously, Toyota..why? I didn't bother to reroute it on the 2018, instead I just coated the frame where it drains with several extra layers of Fluid Film. Toyota doesn't care, why should I? I'm sure there are more similarities I made mental notes of...

 

I bought a TRD pro, so I paid msrp which is rare in my area; most places like to tack on $5-10k. I love the smoothness of power delivery, handling, ride, visibility, and interior/exterior styling.

I may just go ahead and wait until they release a 2020 announcement and how it will look. Hopefully it brings exciting features and isn’t all hype and no delivery like the Supra (different story for a different day)

I may either get a new sweet 6th gen 4Runner or a generously discounted 2019

 

Just read 4Runner Pro's for 2019 get a $3500 price hike. Only change is the Bilstein to Fox suspension. Seems like a bit of a rip to pay almost $50k for a vehicle that old.

 

4Runner has never been more popular than now. I posted this on another forum. The more they delay the update the more they sell...

The suspension would be the first thing to go when I do get one. No point there in paying 50k for a vehicle when I can buy a TRD off-road for about $36k and make it a better rig than the pro

 

Crazy thing, someone will still buy them. LOL! If money was not an issue and I had a plethora of $$, I'd honestly buy one too.
