Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

On a related note.. I run the 87 tune and every so often I run into a gas station with regular at 85 or 86 octane. So far i've just been getting the "plus" 88 octane at these stations but would 86 be okay with the 87 tune?

 

If you are at high altitude those are probably fine but if you're not then I think sticking with the plus is the right call. I wouldn't chance it personally for a few bucks

 

I keep my tuning laptop in the truck... just in case. But with some planning it's not hard for 99% of the country to access premium fuel given the decent sized tanks we have...

So the stock "OVTune Twin Turbo" setup will work off of the stock internals and your building options for higher boost? How much we talking here? o.0

 

Correct, kit will be designed for stock engine
then we have plans for higher power options.

 

Do you think the stock internals could handle the turbo? How much longevity do you think it would take off the life of the motor?
Obviously with doing oil changed more frequently and other turbo engine general maintenance
I’ve always been wary of making a non turbo vehicle turbo
Only had vehicles that were turbo from the factory

I think the 2GR-FKS engine will have no problem at all handling big power with this platform, for a few reasons outlined below.

The 2GR-FSE.. the older version engine has shown capable of holding over 500BHP with stock bottom end. It is NOT fully forged like ours is.
The 2GR-FKS is a fully forged bottom end.
The fuel system and ECU of this allows for much greater tune-ability than the FSE.
The transmission is used in a diesel on the other side of the world that puts out way more torque than a stock FKS could dream of.

Finally, atkinson + fully forged + having the tunability we have allows for much tighter control over power and safety than ever in the past. It's not like slapping a piggyback on and praying, everything is under very tight tolerance.

More frequent oil changes are not necessary. 5k Miles on synthetic is just fine, unless you do a lot of off-roading in dusty or extreme environments.

Also, we plan with our TT system to offer 3 different versions of the kit. I've also decided due to design of the exhaust and over-lapping under the engine, that we are going to be doing away with single turbo option at this time. The single turbo we intended to use costs about the same as the twins we currently have so the price really isn't that much different.

I will have more information on current parts list for the kit this evening

There is a big difference between java as a back end language and as a front end using the web applet. The apps that require your computer to have java installed are utter shit, back end frameworks that use java are far from shit.

 

Consider these twin turbos already purchased ;-)

 

That would be twice as frequent as a stock engine.

 

Stock is 10k miles but with twin turbos ide just change every 5k

 

I can see the forged pistons being an improvement but how could the billet rods be an improvement over the stock rods which are forged unless they are titanium? Honest question. Are you also developing titanium valves?

 

Ugh that’s like every couple weeks for me. I seem to average about 1000 miles a week

I’ll be the long term test mule for the turbo set up. Give me a couple months and I’ll have more miles logged than most do in a year or more

 

Billet rods are almost always going to be the strongest option for a connecting rod. The stock ones are Forged but not bulletproof. The billets we are having developed will be bulletproof.

I don't see any good reason for titanium valves on this engine.

 

I know that. I was pointing out that saying “more frequent oil changes are not necessary” is contradictory to the statement saying “5k on synthetic is fine.”
