So i have the standard prinsu 2x1 cross members. But the 1/4" carriage bolts are not fitting.. any thoughts on why?

Not sure. I have used a variety of different materials, grades, and sources for the carriage bolts and have never had an issue. It could be possible that you are using some that have a larger neck portion than standard. Try grabbing some from a different source to see.

Turns out that the stainless were smaller than the galvinized and zinc. Also, not all stainless 1/4" were the same. So i had to try many to get ones that fit but i enventually found some!

What size bolts and washers are used to mount to the roof? Trying to find some replacements that won’t rust and preferably black.

FYI: Yakima JayLow Folding J-Cradle's fit the prinsu crossbars nicely and they're supposed to be able to carry a second kayak.

Has anyone put a Ham antenna on their rack? If so I'd love to hear where and how you mounted, and how it's working for you.

    Yep.
Don't have the pics on this computer and an image search didn't help however, I found a nice DIY mount a while ago that will make it's way onto my rack. Pretty basic, just mount a flat sheet (or "U" shape) between two of the crossbars and mount the antenna to that.

You could fab up a side mount, or even use a bought mount probably, but I like the idea of keeping comms more centered on the vehicle for a good ground plane.

Got my maxtrax mounted up to the prinsu plates and after tightening everything down I noticed one of the maxtrax mounting pin bolts makes contact with the topper. Just leave it or take it down and cut it? Never planning to put anything as heavy as a rtt on. One of the maxtrax pins crossthreaded during install as well.

Need to trim the rear bracket because I got lazy and just slipped it under my Plano case. Decided to use too many bolts/nuts on the front bracket because it seemed like a handy place to store spares. Would probably look better if I painted the brackets black.

I have the same universal plate and mounted it up. Don’t like how the bolts that slide into the cross rails stick up forcing the rotopax to sit on each bolt. I’m afraid once secured down each bolt can damage the rotopax.

You could get t-nuts and screw the universal plate down with the appropriate sized button head screw to eliminate that concern.
