Finally a fix from Toyota for Stumble condition (TSB 0062-18)

We'll see. The service manager and the tech each have Tacomas and hadn't heard of this. We talked and they said they both have the issues and will be doing it to their own trucks today too.

 

I did mine too. Sounded like everyone has been head over heals for it. I feel a difference but I still have stumble. I wonder if it's because my truck has fewer miles and I've had less time driving a learned transmission that others with more miles, so I feel less of a difference??

 

Honestly the biggest difference I saw was that it was holding gears a lot better. Mine was hunting for gears all the time before, and now it shifts more like my gf's GX

 

Just received a call from my dealership (antioch toyota) my service advisor actually owns a tacoma too and he agreed the factory shifting is shit so he updated it for me. Won't be able to pick up my rig until later today but hopefully it is better. I'm tired of rolling around with ECT mode on lol

 

I had mine reprogrammed yesterday and WOW is it better!!

1. I walked in with the TSB and simply stated that I needed it done as I was experiencing a drive ability issue. (this was all I needed no further resistance)
2. If they demand to drive the truck...let them, the problem is REAL.
3. If they give you any push back explain that you / your family / your friend has a cabin in the Colorado mountains and it was TERRIBLE there and nearly got you killed. Offer to let them experience the issue there and inform them to pack a pair of jammies and a toothbrush for the trip... oh and BRING GAS MONEY!

 

Just picked up my truck from the dealer. In short, the TSB works. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about this being a cure-all for the transmission issues that I've (we've) been having, but now I'm convinced. The best way that I can describe it is ECT mode lite. There is no hunting, hesitation, or guessing. If you hit the throttle, it selects the appropriate gear and goes, period. It holds gear longer than it used to, but it's not speed/RPM dependent to shift like ECT mode is. The apparently missing power on the bottom end, especially in first gear or a low RPM situation in any gear, is completely gone. No more upshifts from second to fourth or third to fifth. No downshifts from fifth to fourth to third, then hesitation, then lag, then going like it should. Granted this is just my initial experience. It'll be interesting to see what the new flash will 'learn' over the next 1000 miles.

And for reference, I have the TRD CAI, Borla cat back, 265/75R16 A/Ts, and run 93 octane fuel.

 

I’ve got 100 miles on this TSB in my ‘18 auto now. If it was this way from the factory, I wouldn’t have even considered the Orange Virus tune.

Maybe my mindset will change when version 1.05 comes out, but for now, I see very little difference in the two (87 octane tune specifically).

 

We all honestly thought Toyota wasn't going to do anything about this issue. The OV tune filled a need, hopefully he can expand on the tune and make the truck perform better.

 

That’s my mindset. I wasn’t going to wait for Toyota to address the issue. I don’t regret buying it at all, because I know that Mat will continue to improve on it (and maybe offer features Toyota would never even think of).

 

Just got it done this afternoon, I stated the TSB number I told them that, “I have hesitation on the throttle whenever I am up in the mountains”....got it done no questions asked

 

Got my 18’ in today for the update 62-18 at Toyota of North Charlotte. They gave me no problems. Took awhile, about an hour and a half. I even talked the sales person into selling me a pair of black Tacoma door overlays.

The truck feels and shifts like a truck now. I feel better about getting an AT now. Still want a MT. Thanks TW!!!

 

M/T has the same issue, but it looks like they got an update yesterday.

 

Anyone that gets, or attempts to get the update in Eastern Tennessee, please post up how it went and at what dealership.
So many shill reviews for the service departments in Knoxville and Cleveland it's hard to wade through them. Capital Toyota in Chattanooga's not even trying. lol

 

Wow. My Tech and one other Tech at Lithia in Redding California both did there trucks. And one of the service advisors also. They didn't make a big deal out of it and we're very professional. They even said they were going to reach out to customers and have them come in for the TSB. Guess I'm lucky to have a great local dealer.

I had mine done a while ago but if I would be one of the guys rejected by the dealer and a recall would happen, I would fuck with the dealer (the ones that rejected the update) every day and twice on Sunday.
(remember a recall MUST be done and the reputation of the company in tainted if any accident/incident happens)
Dealer would call or send email to bring the truck for update under recall.
Me:
- can you duplicate the problem? If not no update.
- is the VIN on the recall list? I demand to see it.
- can you please charge me a diagnostic fee? If not see you later.
- I will consider the update ONLY if one of your tech can drive like a bat out of hell and prove it has a problem
- how come you want to update it now and not when I told you it has a problem? I am off to the freeway as it is and hope to make a major accident...oops, Toyota sold a POS truck...

 

That's great to hear! I just made it up to bear lake, and man the lag/stumble was crazy throughout that mountain pass. Plan on going to the dealer next week.

 

What is totally, utterly stupid about this whole thing is that if the truck has a problem with it’s ECU programming, that maybe only shows itself to be an obvious problem at high altitudes, then the fix should be applied to all 3G Tacomas....every last effin one of them!

No fella here who lives at sea level should have to wait for a road trip to the mountains to find out his truck’s ECU programming is FUBAR.

C’mon Toyota!........stop being a bunch of complete Jackasses.....if the programming is wrong for one truck, of a certain age, it is wrong for all trucks of that age. That’s the long and short of it.....a problem for one is a problem for all. It is not fair to find out later that the truck doesn’t perform properly the first time you take it up in the mountains, long after the warranty runs out.

I does not have to be called a “recall”, it could be simply called a “performance update” if you need to save face.

Am I wrong?

 

I don’t believe your wrong, mine is going back to dealer in a couple weeks. It stumbles and shifts horribly!
It would not be a recall, but a Voluntary Service Campaign!

 

Did Longo give you a hard time about the TSB? I plan on taking mine there next week.
