Hmm, maybe URD quality control isn’t the greatest. Sounds like slotting the holes a bit may be the only way to go.

I also had fitment issues with my URD setup. Almost made me wish I had never bought the stuff in the first place

I don’t think this particular issue is urd’s fault. The bracket wasn’t reinstalled when I had the factory ypipe from that shop. I’ll post pics this weekend so yall can see what I am talking about. It’s close but off just enough that it doesn’t fit properly. You can see the cats on the headers from under the truck, it looks like the driverside cat is slightly off by a few degrees. The passenger side comes down pretty straight.

Thanks Crash! I'm not 100% following you. I have an Off Road model with factory skids and there is no skid under the trans.
I do ensure the pipe sits slightly higher than the crossmembers so there is no fitment issue for someone running aftermarket skids.
I havent seen aftermarket skids in person so I dont know exactly how far they sit under the crossmember.

If I put a straight bar between the two crossmembers shown in the lower pic. The pipe clears.

I know roost just responded to this but I will give ya a heads up, if it is like the urd ypipe then you can’t have the vertical support braces on the trans pan. Good thing my rci ones are removable. If yours aren’t you might have to grind down a few spots. If you have a flat skid then it works perfectly.

    What were the issues?
That's the thing with any mass produced item like exhaust. They make a jig then weld the parts and ensure fitment in the jig.
I honestly dont have enough faith in my own ability to make a jig that would mimic the truck exactly. That's why I use my truck as a template for each one built. Sure it's a pain in the ass because every time I start fitting one I have to remove my y-pipe and take my truck out of service but it's the only way (right now) that I feel comfortable doing it to ensure proper fitment.
Also because I do it this way each pipe is slightly different from each other because each piece is fitted and marked by hand to my truck then taken off and tacked at the welder. No two pipes are exactly the same but I ensure you they fit my truck.

The left header side of the y pipe didn't fit on the header flange completely and gave me a little leak. I took it to the muffler shop and they fixed it, but it still sounds pretty hissy but i couldn't feel any leaks anywhere

That’s a bummer, I did the whole URD setup at once and didn’t have any trouble that I remember.

Maybe I misunderstood, I thought you had URD headers. But you have shorties with cats welded on? I could see where a shop could screw up those angles and just lazily toss the bracket.

I have the URD equal length LT headers. I have no cats in my setup. Ive heard some say the hissing sound is normal but I think i'm going to take it to a second shop for another opinion.

A few more pics from Roostfactor day.

In this shot, and the one above, the hanger is being welded on.

One thing to note for all that are interested in this: I don't have control over the exact finish of the straight tubing. Sometimes it comes brushed and sometimes it doesn't. Also, the pipe in this picture has 45 degree elbows because my supplier was out of 90 degree bends. I usually do the 90 degree bends and if available that is what will be provided unless you want to spend an extra $50 for all 45 degree bends.
    20180718_211818.jpg
This is an example of the 90 degree bends where possible and non brushed straight tubing.

Would you be interested in fabricating a system for the 3rd gen? Please..

I believe URD has an equal length Spec-U system for the third gen already. The y-pipe is probably not the ideal length for performance though.
I would need all of the engine specifications before I could even begin to tackle this. As an example here are some of the specifications used:
Eng displacement, number of cylinders, bore/stroke, compression ratio, intake runner length, number of valves, valve lift and duration, cam lobe separation angle, engine hp, primary header length and diameter, primary collector length and diameter, etc.

I designed this for performance and I wouldnt even know where to begin with the third gens funky exhaust collector.

One disclaimer that I just added to my first post is that if you get this y-pipe you will have to install a flex pipe in your exhaust because the v-band I provide has zero flex unlike the factory donut flange.

Apologies for the lack of clarity. I destroyed my factory skids on the last outing, so I am looking at aftermarket replacements, including the trans. I would hate to use that beautiful art peice of art as a skid plate. You answered what I was looking for, thanks!

@Murphinator I was also evaluating RCI, the trans pan has center braces, when you say “removable”, do you mean with an angle grinder?

Negative. Mine were held in by 3 bolts on each brace. No angle grinder required!

Edit: I do have the aluminum version though, steel may be different.

Thanks for the info, I was going to run aluminum as well. Their website shows welded braces, maybe it is showing the steel product, or a earlier version. I’ll email to confirm with them before purchasing if that is the route I decide on.
