Installing a softopper this weekend. I’m expecting it should be pretty straightforward but wanted to ask if there were any tips/watchouts.

    Thanks.

It's pretty easy. I cleaned my tailgate with alcohol and applied the Velcro then let it sit for a day before pulling the rear flap down to it. I've had no problem with it in the year it's been on the truck.

Before attaching the rivet snaps to your bed, sit in driver's seat and make sure it is level. Then attach. The window may not be velcroed straight.

I did not apply the Velcro on the tailgate. It has not been an issue.

Imo the instructions tell you to mount the rails too far back. After it was all said a done I took the clamps back off and slid the topper forward another inch or more.

Move the pivot pin to the bottom hole. Mine arrived in the middle.

Don't apply any Velcro or snaps for a few days until you know where things need to be.

Spray paint or use colored duct tape to color code the side that has marker dots. Sooner or later that colored sharpie will wear off. Also, wrap tape or mark the front bar with paint to make it easier to identify the front/back if you ever tear it down, it's faster to reassemble. The fabric top goes zippers to the back, so this is already identified.

I used different velcro on the tailgate. The original didn't take for some reason. I rounded the corners on the Velcro I did used, it is less likely to peel. You can tuck the flap between the tailgate and window. Most of the time it won't flap around anyway. If you are towing, it will flap around without Velcro.

After installing, get inside during the daytime and look for light coming in thru seams or corners.

Use 303 on the top, be gentle on the windows. I don't touch mine with anything but dish soap.

This. Definitely this. Here’s how far forward I set mine. Doesn’t touch the cab at all.

I ended up not using any Velcro on the tailgate. It just sits on top and haven’t had any issues with water leaking in from the back. Just rolls off.

But I did what others have mentioned in terms of moving up the rails very close to the head of the bed and no issues and think it looks better.
