Went from 3rd Gen Taco to 3GT4R to 2nd Gen Taco and finally a V8 4GT4R.
THIS. My advisor and several techs have the new tacos and they were bitching about the erratic shifting too. He said "oh don't worry about it I know how these trucks shift. I have one too and hated how it used to be. You have the most up to date update now so everything should be good to go." Maybe that tech was just having a shitty day?

Are you talking about the 62-18 update, because I live in SE Texas, which is very low altitudes, and my truck had the problem that was solved by the update.

There should be no push back on this. Doesn't the dealership get paid by toyota to do the update?

It does not matter to me if Toyota motor corp pays the dealerships or not. There is a issue and it needs to be corrected. The dealerships have sold the truck, which means they are partners. If the mechanics and service writers don't like it, then they should find alternate work. No one signed up for this shit, so we all have to deal. The least they could do is make it stream lined and hassle free.

I’m a little confused with this because I am not seeing the same results as y’all. I emailed my service advisor to make sure they had applied it. They did it in about 15 minutes in the parking lot so after not having the same experience as everyone here I have been skeptical.

I finally decided to use ECT this morning. I remember ECT feeling better before but it felt GREAT this morning. After about 15 minutes I thoughtt, ECU Flash to control transmission…. Why would that not be using the Electronically Controlled Transmission button??? But everyone here says it’s without using it and honestly, I never read the TSB so I don’t know if it says anything about it.

When mine was done they hooked a battery charger to my battery witch is mentioned on Page 2 under Special Service Tools needed for the TSB. Being yours was done in the parking, this step might have been missed.

UPDATE. Last week I talked to a service advisor at the dealer where a bought my truck from (Joe Myers @290 west) he was very rude and told me that there was no tsb or update for my truck and they wanted to charge me $130 for diagnostic fee. Yesterday I called them again and I was ready to raise hell, if they said the same thing. I was very surprised that this time the service advisor (ROBERT) was very helpful & polite. He told me that it was a very busy day, and they could do the update & my first oil change, but it was going to take a few hrs. I told him that it was fine. I went and dropped off the truck in the morning and about 4 hrs later he called me saying the truck was ready. I looked at my paperwork and they performed update (EG1811) which I believe is TSB 62-18. Before the update, I didn't have all those nightmares that others talk about, but I sure missed the low end torque that my 2012 Trd sport had. Well, after the update I'm totally happy with my truck. Now it feels like my 2nd gen, but obviously better looking and all the new technology, I highly recommend this update.:D

There’s absolutely no need to use a battery charger during the process. Turn off the headlights, A/C and radio, and you won’t run the battery voltage down during the 10 minutes it takes to flash the update.

Welp, my Access Cab Pro Clone is running Beauteous, the tech that worked on my truck has over 25yrs experience at the same location. I’ll put my money on him any day that the TSB was installed correctly and not out in the parking lot.

Ok. Good for your 25 year tech. Thousands of trucks tuned with Orange Virus, using the exact same process, have been done in their driveway, without a battery charger hooked up, and run fine.

I went in for my 10k service, I just happened to ask the service advisory if they could check the transmission for a calibration update since the shifting didn't seem to be as good as it could be. They preformed the TSB-0058-18 update (new modification sticker is affixed inside the hood).

The shifting feels a lot better, I've been driving the truck for about a year now and since the update I'm actually giving the truck too much throttle input so it seems to have made a big difference. At low speeds it either doesn't up-shift into a lower gear or kicks back down right away instead of having to go like 50%-75% pedal to cause a downshift.

    2017 DCLB TRD Sport model.

Since you broke it in with the glitch, I wonder if doing the learning reset would be a good idea. In fact, everyone who has this done might want to consider it. Just start over now that the transmission is updated. I am glad I have the chance to break mine in after the update.

My brain needs to relearn without the glitch :) To elaborate, when I knew I was coming up to an incline, i would give it more gas preemptively to either maintain momentum or cause a downshift. The amount of throttle input I need is way less now for inclines.

I did sometimes use ECT. I had success with ECT on the highway eliminating downshifts (Pennsylvania hills and 70Mph speed limits on I-80) however ECT seemed to be "too much" for driving under 60 was holding gears too long for normal driving. As someone else said now feels like ECT "lite" the better throttle response of ECT but a more smooth shifting than ECT mode.

I won't be doing another I-80 trip for a while to compare, but I want to see if that stops the "curse control floors it every hill" issue i used to have.

I just called my local dealership. They hadn’t heard of it yet. I gave the service advisor the tsb numbers, she said “let me call you back”.
20 minutes later, she called back. I have an appointment for 9:00 am Monday.
    I will report back!

Just got mine done this morning at Hendrick Toyota in Concord, NC. No problems at all. Had me out of there in about an hour.

First thing I immediately noticed was how much smoother it now shifts (both up and down). I no longer feel the need to use ECT every time I get in the truck.

I’m also noticing an improvement in fuel mileage. Really happy with this update so far.

Not sure why since the TSB covers 2016 up. My friend got his late 16 done.

Well got an appointment for next thursday so fingers crossed. Getting inspection and changing blinker amount and I told them about the "stumble" and I heard an ECU update came out last month to fix this. He said they will have to look and see if there is an update for my vehicle for "shifting".
