What is the purpose of this peg, that sticks out waiting to be snagged on something and then tweaking my frame? Watching an install video for the C4 Fab lo-pro bumper, it appears you can remove it by undoing the bolt next to it. As it seems to be perfectly placed to be hit by rocks, etc., I'm thinking it should go.

I removed mine. No complaints. It doesn’t seem to do much.

I'd venture to say it's there to protect your front half shafts, at least a little bit.

Replaceable crush component to help protect the steering from being bent by road debris. Seems to have been put there for a reason. It isnt in the interest of Toyotas profit margin to design, manufacture, and install a part that is pointless.

I have NEVER known an auto manufacturer to install a part that has no use. Leave parts out, yes.

Isn’t it tha mount for the airdam on the sport model?. My OR has it but figured it’s just superfluous. Super lightweight steel, and hinged on a single bolt. It is not structurally strong.

My guess is some DOT spec for minimum bumper override bar length.
