Service past 25K ??

I just had my 20K service done. Asked the service folks what my cost would be for the intervals going forward. getting a straight answer was like pulling teeth. They have a "package" for 60k and 90k that includes changing coolant, and changing flushing and changing trans fluid.

He printed me a maint schedule for my VIN which is a 2017 SR5 4wd 6cyl.


if I go on the dealer website and pick 60,000 miles then select "factory required service" it does show the spark plugs being changed...and gives me a total price of $145.xx.

This is their 60k package, and he says I have iridium plugs which are good for 125k (seems he dis not read what he printed out ??

 

if im not mistaken the 2.7l engine has Iridium plugs and the v6 has standard copper core at 30k miles, my truck is a 2.7l it has iridiums the first change out is 120k miles per the manual

 

I know there have been threads aplenty on this already, my apologies for that. Looked at 120k on their website and mandatory stuff, looks like plugs again at 120k, and the same $145.xx total price. Website is not showing plugs at 30k.

 

Is there a question? I see lots of question marks but no questions.

 

What are the required services for 30k-120k, and what is typical cost without adding on a bunch of upsold BS ?? . I see on his printout supposedly for my VIN it shows spark plugs (4). EDIT : oops I see now that the (4) is just a footnote about resetting the service light.

 

I think that info for maintainence scheduling for ur truck is in the owners manual paper work

 

There is a list yes, but I'm looking for cost......

 

Costs will probably vary by where you take it to for service.

 

I guess I was a bit surprised by the "bend the customer over and upsell him like no tomorrow". I should not have been surprised. IMHO that is the root cause for the lack of any clear info F2F.

 

I Think OP is trying to figure out if it is worth buying the package or just paying for the service each time something is due.

 

I was weighing the potential cost of required service (to maintain warranty) vs paying for a Toyota Care Plus Plan to take it to 75,000 miles. I did buy the extended warranty when I got the truck (yea I know they are BS and a waste of money).

I also saw where the one guy was quoted $1500 for his 30k service so I just wanted to have eyes wide open as to what comes later.

Our parents lived during the great depression, my life is a paradise compared to that, BUT I was laid off during the 2009-10 debacle and think of the extended warranty as a way to not end up having to PAY for a truck every month that I could not use because I did not have the $x,xxx to put a new transmission in it or some such during such a bad time.

Think the cost would really depend on where you take the vehicle too? Either Toyota dealership, local mom and pop fit it shop, do it yourself garage, etc). Easiest way I would think is just take the manual in to these places and ask how much would it cost to do the items listed under the required maintenance section.

 

I think you are right. I will just make up a list for each interval, and send it several places for a quote. There is SOME benefit maybe having it done at a dealer and having it all "in the system" if there is any issue with warranty.

Also stuff like changing coolant might be cheap insurance, but I can do lots of stuff myself ;-).

im in the same boat as u with the work income, but I take advantage of the free knowledge on this and other sites to do the required Toyota maintainence schedule myself and use OEM parts and high quality aftermarket parts with the savings from DIYing it

 

In the Owners section of toyota.com, you can enter any work done on your own. I did my own 5k oil change and driveline fluid swaps. I entered all the info including part numbers in the vehicle history. I bought most of the stuff off of Amazon, so the Order History has the receipts. Easy.

 

Oh I am great on the work income NOW...but that was a black time for sure 2009-2010. Born in 1964 and the cost of a major vehicle repair has went nuts since the 80's.

Back then a trans only lasted 80k but you could buy a junkyard trans for $75, stuff lasts longer now but costs more when it does die. Looks like about $1500 for a used taco 4x4 6 speed auto trans just for the part ?

I have been quite lucky. Have a great service manager that breaks my big services up in 2 visits. I'm retired so this is easy on the wallet.

 

Don't get suckered by dealer packages. Just get what is called for in your manual.

 

The iridium tipped plugs in the v6 are required changing due to emissions regs. If they are not done at 60k this will void the emissions warranty which is greater then the standard 36k power train warranty.
