These showed up today - more parts expected tomorrow. My lower will take an ambi safety - so I ordered one...but when I saw the upper I wanted I decided I'd build the lower using FDE mag release, safety, etc. So, now I have a bunch of extra black parts...that will need to find their way into another build. :)

I used FDE controls on my .300 Blackout. You will like the way it looks.

@Devious6 I have OD controls on another AR. But I refuse to put RED controls on an AR.

Yeah, not a big fan of red accenting. I can see dressing up a match gun that's already kinda space-gunny, but a regular ar with a bunch of red anodized bits just strikes me as tacky at best.

Well, I had a little windfall of some money...so I ordered all the remaining parts I need to complete my build. Should have everything by next Wednesday - except for the trigger; it's backordered with a 1-2 week wait time. Made some decisions along the way in price versus big name/supposed quality so we'll see how it all turns out. I'll put a list together of the parts when I've got it all together and see how it performs.

I do have a spare Magpul MOE+ Black grip - bought it a week ago before I decided to do the Black/FDE mix and decided to order an FDE grip instead. SOLD.

Parts are starting to arrive now. By Saturday I should have everything for the build with the exception of the trigger - I ordered a LaRue and it's backordered. The email indicates 1 to 2 weeks delay in shipping; I'm at one today. I do have several mil-spec triggers I can put in for now if I get antsy.

I played around with scope options. Didn't want to spend big bucks because I rarely have access to a range more than 200 yards and ever more rarely anything longer. And, I've done some Vintage Sniper competitions with a Soviet Mosin Nagant sniper and that only has a 3X scope - and I could get hits at 1000 yards. So, I was going to go for a Vortex and then happened across this Monstrum - 1X6X24, illimunated reticle for under $200 with ring mounts and lens covers. I added an offset mount based on reviews. Figured I'd give it a try.

*immediately gets antsy and installs milspec trigger.

If you're looking for decent glass at low price, check out Primary Arms' house-brand optics. I've had great experiences with 3 optics I've purchased from them. I think my most expensive one was under $300 and the lowest being a red dot at $70 or something like that. Definitely not precision glass, but not cheap e-bay knock offs either. Still made in China I believe, but fit and finish suggests otherwise. They have varying tiers ($) but you should be able to find something that suits your needs.

I actually got many of my parts through Primary - didn't think to try out their optics. I've got two Vortex red dots and they are great. Just figured I'd try something different. Just a quick lookover it seems to be OK. We'll see once I get it on the range. And, yes, I may just have to put that mil-spec in this weekend.

(Not an AR but...) My buddy has a straight trigger in his M&P. I don't like the trigger safety dingus, but the trigger itself is fine.

I just ordered the new Magpul bipod. I'm interested in seeing if it lives up to the hype. I'll report back when it shows up.

marketing gimmick????? I'm guessing you have never shot one then. It completely changes the shooters shooting structure. It lengthens the pull distance and increases the sensitivity on the trigger by pin pointing the energy your introducing to the trigger.

I ordered one from Brownell's yesterday in FDE - they are all waiting for delivery of the FDE. Brownell's was about $6 cheaper than Magpul and they directed FDE sales to their retailers for some reason.

I understand, there not for everybody. That's why we get so many great choice's. But definitely NOT a gimmick!
