Those same things are on second gens too. They typically get removed when installing an aftermarket bumper for aesthetics only. No one knows the true purpose behind them.

Ill add to me previous comment.
It is for when you are travelling 95 in a 65 and hit a bunny. The bunny hits the protrusion and its head explodes and just leaves a mess. If it wasnt there, the bunny would have that extra split second to get its body high enough to hit the steering and bend it. You immediately feel the steering jerk and start to lose control. You try slamming on the brakes, but the abs only contributes to the truck starting to skid sideways. At 70mph, your tire rolls the sidewall and the truck starts to tip. For half a second, you think to yourself "is this why they said seatbelts save lives?". But, you were too cool to wear one. Besides, it makes it harder to reach your vape pen. As your truck is rolling, you are bouncing around the cab until your right arm finds the open rear driver side window. That is when you arm gets caught under the rolling truck. But, your foot is firmly under you passenger seat. So, you allow your arm (not really your choice) to stay at that spot in the road while you bounce around and smack your head against the headliner as the roof crushes as the truck comes to a sliding stop. Now, you are unconcious thinking to yourself "how did that happen?".
    Moral(s) of the rambling story...
    1: wear your seat belt
2: leave the vape pens for the hipsters with top knots
3: watch out for suicidal bunnies
    4: dont speed
5: remove bumper/frame components at your own risk.

    Uh oh.

We started on the metal bar under the bumper, but now you’ve awoken the sleeping beast. Can you hear it? That low rumble. That’s the sound of the Sport guys running to this thread to defend their hood scoop. They take no prisoners, or survivors.

Don’t know which state you’re in or the laws there; but in California, red lights are not allowed to face forward without an emergency vehicle CHP inspection license. Short answer, very illegal.

Well, it was a good thought... Maybe I should mount a light to it so it has a use

A quick youtube search on airdamns proves that bracket was not for the airdamn :/

OR doesn’t have Air dam. The air dam bolts to the bottom of the bumper plastic

A light there might not be the best idea, you could potentially rip it off while off roaring or bumping a curb
