Duratrac vs KO2

I have had both. Ko2s for the sidewall strength. Have seen a lot of Goodyear tires with sidewall failures on trails, Duratracs and MT/Rs.

 

If you’re going to be in a lot of mud or snow, the duratracs will get more traction in those situations everytime. They are a little louder than the ko2s on pavement through. That’s the drawback. Ko2s are good all around tires but the duratracs aggressive tread pattern reallllly bites into mud and snow incredibly well. Other than that and the noise I’d consider them comparable it all other factors.

 

Wish I had know that before I purchased mine last week . I replaced my NITTOS which were pretty good but the KO's look better on the truck

KO2s are a true AT and are very good daily driver tire. Duratracs are considered an aggressive AT, hybrid between an AT and MT, will work for a daily but perform better offroad.

 

No one has tried that Bridgestone Revo-3?

 

I can't comment on the duratracs as I never had them. But I have the KO2. They weigh around 60lbs each if I am not mistaken. It takes more power to get them moving off the start line. And It takes a lot for them to bog down and start spinning if you're on mud, or sand. I was offroading last weekend, and they barely spun. (Aired down) They have a hell of a grip to the ground. At the end, it all depends on you and where you offroad and so forth. Yes, they have a thick wall that prevents minor debris from causing a puncture, or you get the duratracs with a thinner wall, where chances of flats are higher. Your decision. Good luck.

I'm not following, they both can come in Load E with the same ply ratings.

 

It's the side wall. Most tires are 1 or 2 ply where an offroad tire should be 3 ply

 

Most SL are 2 ply sidewall

 

I’ve seen Duratrac with sidewalls from 2-4 and depends on the tire size.

I've never torn/blown a sidewalk on a Duratrac. Several sets on a Quigley work can, that saw more abuse than most of the trucks on here.....
1 set on my Cummins.
And 1 set on my frontier.

The only sidewall I've torn recently, was on my KO2s.... but, the rock would've shredded damn near anything anyway.

While I'd say it's almost a toss up in snow, the KO2s actually seem a little better honestly, they pack up real nice.
The mud... lol, they both suck. They aren't mud tires.

That said, get a tire for what you're going to use it for....

The only reason not going KO2 again, is the load range.

Otherwise, I'd already have a set on the truck.

I have Duratrac's on my Cherokee, quite on the highway, great in the snow. I'm going to call my tire guy Monday for pricing.

 

I had duratracs for 3 weeks. Went wheeling one time in rocks and 2 sliced sidewalls had me changing them out quickly. I considered the KO2 again, but went with the falcon wildpeak mt and they are extremely good tires. There was at no time where I was sliding off of rocks, they just have a reputation for weak sidewalls. I hoped it was only a rumor. But from my experience it was not a rumor. I have had no issue from the wildpeak mts. They are heavier and louder. But they are good. The new bfg km3 have great reviews too. Nitto ridge grapplers are also great. Have had them all but the new km3s.

 

I have KO2s and do a lot of offroading. I have yet to get stuck bad enough to where I needed assistance. *Knock on wood*

 

How do you like the ko2's for water on the roads ?

 

I have K02s. Really great for everything but snow/ice. Whatever body allows BF Goodrich to apply the “severe snow rating” to the K02s must have been paid off. They are great tires otherwise, but do not deserve their peak/snowflake rating. The stock Goodyears are much better in snow than the K02.

 

I wish I could find out if the 265/75/16 and 265/70/16 Duratracs have the 3ply sidewall? Anybody know?

 

Agree. Had the original ko's on two trucks, unsiped they were downright dangerous in snow. Can't imagine the ko2 would be much different. Run duratracs on my work truck, been great with no flats. Run siped duratracs on the fj, very very good, but do get loud when worn down.
